Sky message to replace card

I my stopped sky subscription at the end or July 2007 and since then I have just recieved the free to view channels.

I have started getting on screen messages telling me to replace my card.

On going to sky.com/replacecard and entering my card No it tells me I have to pay £20 if I want to continue to receive all channels.

What are sky up to and do you have to pay or can you just ignore it?

I note that it states "If you bought your skybox after 1st May 06 ........" that you do not have to pay?

Since I was stll a subscriber up to July 07, effectively buying the skybox, I should be covered and not have to pay for a new card?

Can anybody advise?

Re: Sky message to replace card

As an ex-subscriber your smartcard is not going to be replaced free of charge, the free replacement covers freesatfromsky cards bought as is within the last three years or as part of a freesatfromsky package within the last 5 years.

You ignore the message and when the card is switched off remove and continue to watch the FTA channels but you lose SKY3, Fiver and FiveUS and a handful of ITV regions and Five (Five FTA can be added manually).
You may at that time consider buying a Freesat box, you still will only the same channels but regional mapping does not require a smartcard.

Re: Sky message to replace card

I refused point blank to give Sky any more of my money when this started happening and went out and bought a Bush Freesat box.

I doubt I'd ever go back to Sky after many fiascos with them and although I've had my Sky+ box used for FTV for the past year and a half, its now unplugged and gathering dust.
