BBC HD-No centre audio during programmes

I have Technisat HDFS freesat receiver.
It is connected to Yamaha AV amp via SPDIF.
I am unable to get any sound from centre speaker only left & right front channels. The strange thing is before programme starts during intro all speaker channels working program starts left/ right only.
On BBC test card/audio test all speakers work as expected.
Amp shows it is receiving 5 channels and audio info from receiver is AC3 Dolby Digital.
Anyone else experiencing no 5.1 audio?

Quite a few BBC HD and all ITV HD output is in DD2.0 not 5.1. The HD preview loop is all 5.1 though

Others reporting Top Gear & Dr Who only having left & right even though appearing to be flagged 5.1

Les.
I definitely had 5 channels working in Dr Who - and amp was showing it as DD5.1, so it was not using pro logic.

Late Edit: I must need my ears testing... tried the recording, and it was only 2 channels!
Maybe I was sitting in the "sweet spot" and got a good centre effect!

Re: BBC HD-No centre audio during programmes

DR Who & Top Gear were definately flagged by the BBC as 5.1 my amp showed 5.1 but only left & right audio.
At least I am not the only one with this issue.
Thanks for the replies.

My Sony DAV DZ260 surround sound system has both the Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro-Logic II indicators displayed for most programs on BBC HD. If you turn off Pro-Logic II when they are both on then you get 2 channel audio (no centre or rear effects).

I've noticed that when I'm watching some programs (the demonstration video which shows occasionally and the Jools Holland show for example) cause the Pro-Logic indicator to turn off and I get proper dolby digital sound as expected.

Wierd?

BBCHD also balls it up themselves some of the time, they flag it as 5.1 and output as 2.0

Ah, re-read this thread properly this time and yes, it does make sense!

So let me see if I got this right. When the BBC broadcast a DD2.0 soundtrack does this have the surround sound info matrixed onto the 2 channels that the decoder uses to create a surround effect using Dolby Pro Logic II?

Thanks for the link to the BBC technical blog. It makes for interesting reading.

its worth reading Andy Quested's other blogs (if you have not already found them)

agree with his opinion or not, they are as you say an interesting read.
