Cost of Freesat Installation

I'm just about to purchase a 42" Panasonic V10 from Roy Jowett Audio and Visual Home Cinema & Hi Fi Specialists :: Hot Deals on Hifi & A/V Equipment :: Home Cinema & More :: DLP, LCD & D-ILA Projector Specialists - : Roy Jowett Home Cinema & Hi Fi : Call 01282 864048 (speak now if you have heard any bad as I haven't used them before) and as I'm going to have to use another company to wall mount it because I'm too far away for them to install it I'm also looking at getting Freesat set up at the same time.

Now I have an existing sat dish on my wall which has been there since I moved in, is it possible I may be able to use this or will I need a new one and if so how much will it cost? (I'm trying not to get ripped off lol)

Also if anyone knows a decent company near Sheffield who can do the following jobs all together that would be great.
  • Wallmount plasma (i've already purchased the mount)
  • Move a wallmounted centre speaker
  • Hook up tv to the sat dish/price of sat dish if needed.

Have a look at this thread: How much did you pay for............

Asking on here about prices of installations is practically guaranteed to bring forth replies from installers implying they have the intellect of theoretical physicists and their time is worth that of a brain surgeon.

The best thing to do is either do the job yourself or, if you don't feel up to that, ring round and get several quotes.

Re: Cost of Freesat Installation

No, you shouldn't need a new dish - assuming it was previously used for Sky - but it may need re-aligning, & it may need a different LNB (see below).

Your TV with its own Freesat tuner, will of course be fine for viewing Freesat, once your dish & connection are fixed. But the only way you'll be able to record from the TV will be with it switched to the channel you wish to record - ie you won't be able to record a channel while watching another. For this, you'll need a Freesat PVR, like the Humax Foxsat, & for this you'll need an additional feed (& preferably two feeds) from the dish. So, if your dish has only a single LNB, you may wish to get a quad fitted; & extra cables connected.

Re: Cost of Freesat Installation

I did my own install. Dish is on side of house and accesible from path so no ladders!
Initially I got a quad LNB Dish kit including dish cable clips etc. All under £30
I also got a cheap, used Sky Digi Box for under £30
All off ebay.
It all worked first time. This was my test setup, once it worked OK I bought a Humax PVR when they came out last year. That also worked first time and in general has been great ever since.

Hope this helps
