Exclamation Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

Heads up.

After the recent OTA update to software V1.00.23 my Freesat receiver has lost a lot of channels, BBC1, ITV1, BBC HD, and many others including some of the Zone xxxxxx channels.

Some of the channels return slowly if I leave the box powered on, some don't.

If I put it in "Standby", when I switch back on the channels are missing again.

Rescan, reset to factory default and manual upgrade with a USB drive don't fix the problem.

I have emailed and spoken to Humax on the phone, the operator was "unaware" of any problems with this upgrade but promised a call back within half an hour. This has NOT materialised

If your box has started to behave oddly, don't worry, you're not alone

Post here to help Humax get their fingers out and sort it out quickly please

EDIT: The temporary solution is to download and install software V1.00.15 linked in post No 44

I thought it was worth a separate thread with a more relevant title, maybe some more complaints will inspire Humax to do something quickly

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

yea mines 'boke' since the 023 update.

the channels im most annoyed at losing are bbc hd and itv (hd) but have lost everything else thats been reported

tried all sorts or retunes, factory resets and nothing.

this affects freesat and non freesat mode. when doing a manual scan most V transponders are reportin 0% signal strength and quality but the H's are at 90-100%

Yup, mine's borked. Lost BBC1, BBC-HD, and plenty of others, and have also picked up the green screen problem too. Mighty fail.

Did another Factory Reset this morning after BBC1 etc. disappeared overnight, box is set to auto standby BTW.

Here's the result for anyone at Humax who thinks that there's no problem, all the V polarised channels appear to be missing.

Interesting see this post where a fellow HD user can get the low band verticals but not the high band ones

Hi Graham, nice bit of diagnostics there

The problem is: when the box is first booted a lot of channels are missing, but, as I scan through and note them down, some of them come back or are pixellated. Some of them show no signal/quality and some of them show full signal/80% quality but no picture, just "Bad or no Signal".

My STB has been on for about 2 1/2 hours now and most of the channels have reappeared, except for S4C digidol, Zone Reality, Zone Thriller, S4C2, Euronews, CNN, weddingTVasia, B4U, Zing, Teachers TV, Pitch TV, Pitch World, GemsTV1, TVShop, All 3 JML, Create n Craft.

They DO seem to be mostly V polarised if that's significant, I haven't bothered to do a menu>diagnostics check on all of them.

What's most interesting to me is that, at initial power up, a lot more channels are missing as I've said, including BBC1, ITV1, BBCHD.

After a few minutes sitting looking at No or Bad Signal on BBC1, pixels start to appear bit by bit, until the whole screen is full of them, after about 15 minutes they start to become a coherent picture until after about half an hour the picture clears.
It's fine then until the next standby when the channels go missing again

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

Here is a definitive list of my affected channels after the 1.00.23 upgrade

This scenario remains the same after endless reboots, rescans, factory resets.

these channels:-
120,136,137,202,204,207,401,504,509,650,803,804,80 5,806,808,809,810,813

show “No or bad signal” permanently - EDIT: also the High Band V Radio channels

These:-

101,103,108,113,115,116,117,121,122,123,124,135,14 0,203

all missing at boot up but return by themselves after about 1/2 to 1 hour.

I just did :-

Upgrade loader, upgrade firmware (from USB), factory reset, power up, standby, power up.

The same permanently missing channels are still missing so no different, except that this time all the second set of channels appear to be there without having to wait half an hour

Thanks Graham,

I thought the list looked the same, I've just been going through the Astra/Eurobird lists to look at the channels in my "reappear" list, any comments about the STB voltage/tone combination for those?

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

On the other forum a while ago I asked the knowledgable folks about an apparent deafness of my Foxsat at the top end of the band.

100% signal but no Quality - Page 2 - Technical - Digital Spy Forums

I never fixed it. I always planned to swap the LNB to see if it was a oddity with the particular LNB I was using, but never got round to it.

Now, with the firmware update, the behaviour has changed from a high signal / low quality on the problem channels to "no or bad signal".

My list of knackered channels now exactly matches the one above.

Very strange - maybe the firmware change has increased the quality threshold at which the "no or bad signal" banner is put up ?

Hmmm, if I can persuade the STB to lose the Low Band V channels again I'll check the less obvious ones as well as Beeb1 etc to see if they're all missing.

If so, I wonder if the people who are experiencing this problem (including me ) have got an LNB skew problem, that might explain why some boxes are O.K.- Marginal reception of Vertically polarised channels = poor LNB alignment?

I actually had forgoten about this update until I noticed the new EPG last night. Mine seems to be working OK (here in Dublin!) with the Yorkshire post code! I hope I have not spoke too soon. I have noticed I don't have to press the red button any more for ITV HD

I have all of my channels but the picture is distorted on most channels except BBC HD. Auto format does not work.

What in Heaven's name are Humax up to? Problems with my 9200, and now this.

Graham, you're absolutely correct, at initial power up from cold all the Low Band Vertical channels are missing as well, they are the ones which re-appear after a while, whereas the High Band Vertical channels are permanently gone.

1. Is this possibly poor skew?

2. Why should an OTA upgrade make this worse?

Thanks for the insights so far

EDIT: Here's BBC1 at 10 mins after power up and then 15mins later as the box warms up, note most of the pixellation has gone. As I write all the low band V channels are now O.K.

My symptoms are not as severe as some folk here, but the picture on all channels now has a weird 'zoomed in' look to it - text at top and bottom of screen is off picture...but I DO still have all channels....weird......

Those of you that have lost channels, this has recently appeared on the hummy Forum, don't know if it will help:

Didn't work for me either, appears to just do a "Factory Reset"

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

Hi all,

My box up-graded, and I get all channels except when I change channel after which I lose all v channels. If I power down the receiver and power it back up again on a v channel it works again....until I change channel again when it shows no or bad signal. Grrrr

They have changed the overscan, try setting vformat to 1080i and setting your tv to full pixel (or whatever it's called to turn off overscan)

I can't see it being an alignment problem as you are not alone with these symptoms, I reckon it's got be a firmware issue. Not sure why but may be the channel database is corrupted and it's allocated all the high band verticals as horizontal (just a theory )

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

I did the upgrade OTA and only problem seen was that channels on one frequency (BET+1, Clubland, Zone Horrors) were missing.

A factory reset brought those back and can see no other problems.

Were these channels set as favourites or deleted before the upgrade?

No - there were all on the frequency that some others reported as being a problem (11.222).

They too got them back after a factory reset.

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

Yes, OTA upgrade has broken my box.
  • No BBC HD or BBC1 etc
  • Missing channels report 0%+0% signal whilst ok channels report 100%+100%
  • Emailed Humax support - no response over 56 hours and counting
  • Phoned, but never got closer than 10 in queue - "Unusually high levels of calls" message - after 20 mins of waiting on their Premium Pay line I gave up.
  • Factory reset correctly, but does not roll back to earlier [correctly working] software.
  • Downloaded latest software and loader from website and installed succefully via USB stick but problem persists.
  • Clicking on earlier software link only reverts to latest version.
  • Followed Grahamlthompsons advice on this and other forums to reset using hidden diagnostic menu but although correctly reset still same missing channels.
Humax do not respond to or even acknowledge this problem
Disgraceful!

re: Has Humax Foxsat HD V1.00.23 upgrade broken your box?

Oh dear - it does seem very flaky now ...
As per post #11, I had lost certain channel around the 1260MHz mark.

Today, returned home and had had a power cut in our absence ( not sure this is relevant)

BBC1, BBC HD and a lot other channel showed "no signal"
Factory reset - ineffective, no change
Did a manual Scan to restore the "non freesat mode" and the BBC channels returned - 100% signal / 100% quality as before.
Still missing the high band vertical channels, but why did BBC 1 / HD disappear only to return after a manual scan ?
