Freesat Vs Freeview HD: Which one to go for?

Hi,

I'm debating whether to get Freesat or wait for Freeview HD. I'm not in any rush, but I definitely want to watch the World Cup 2010 in one of these great quality formats.

Will Freeview HD even be out in time before the World Cup starts?

Cheers

I think that is what they are planning... Just like for Freesat - when that was launched it was just before Euro 2008. The HD STBs came out first allowing all to watch the HD coverage of the footy... then later the PVRs were released enabling everyone to record...

The plan is pretty much the same for Freeview HD - I'd expect. HD STBs will be released just before the tormanent starts... then later the PVRs (probably co-inciding with the Five HD launch) will be released...

As to which will is better - for you - then it all depends if you can wait... What channels you can do without... what you have currently... what HD channels you want... What brand of CE you prefer ... so many questions...

If you just want the footy and you want HD now, then Freesat is the way to go... If you can wait, and want at least 3 HD channels then wait for Freeview HD...

It depends where you live. Freeview HD transmission is due to start on 2 December in the North West of England, & generally will be phased in in other regions with the switch-off of analogue. There are also some areas, including the North East & London where Freeview HD transmission will commence before analogue switch off is due.

Though HD receivers & other hardware will not be available for some months. everyone expects that they will become available in time for the World Cup - but it still seems that some regions will not have Freeview HD transmission by that time.

You might wish to post again, saying where you are, so see whether anyone has firm info on whether you'll have Freeview HD in time for the World Cup.

I am in the north west, so will be one of the lucky ones to be covered by Freeview HD.

I'll have to see what channels are available before I commit.

The SD channels remain the same with the addition of the already announced HD from the BBC, ITV, CH4 and Five.
