Cost for Freesat PVR + instal etc

Looking to price up a freesat installation.

As part of the initial AV installation I have cables already running from where the box will go, under the floor and waiting in a all weather box on the outside wall.

I don't feel confident to do the install myself and was after guidelines as to what to expect to pay as below, please.

Humax PVR £249 - John Lewis 2 year guarantee

Dish, (anything else needed???)

Cabling?

Install

Anything I have forgotten?

Thanks in advance.

It would be very hard to estimate the cost of the dish installation without some idea of where it will be located - not surprsingly, high on a roof will almost certainly cost more than low down on a wall. You refer to cables, so assume there are two - as both will be needed for the Humax HDR. Don't think you've forgotten anything, as long as you've already got an HD-ready TV.

One small point - you say "Freesat installation"; but in fact the dish will point at the satellites (Astra 2 & Eurobird) that all UK channels are received from - whether you view those channels via a Freesat receiver, a Sky box or a generic satellite receiver - & the dish will be the same size whichever receiver is used. So don't be bamboozled into thinking there's something special about a Freesat installation - it's simply a standard dish installation.

I'd advise phoning two or three local aerial/dish installers & asking for quotes, making sure you know whether these include hardware or are just labour.

Thanks.

When we viewed house the previous owners had a dish about 12 ft off the ground right close to where the wires currently run to.

guessing labour + outside cabling £100ish, plus dish on top???

I don't think you should be paying much more than that - but you may find that the quotes are similar & higher, & it's a matter of paying up, or DIY! You may find this website helpful in buying or costing the hardware - Satellite Dishes from Aerial Shack (You may know this, but a 43cm dish will do for the South; but if you're in the North, you may need a 50 or 60cm; & you'll need a quad LNB - they don't do twins these days.)

That surprised me - 43 cm dish plus quad LNB £30 - was expecting to have to spend more than that.

Is there any benefit in going to the 50cm or 60cm (live in Hampshire near Southampton)

Is it hard to self install?

The bigger dish will give you more margin in heavy rain and snow before you lose your signal. For the minimal cost I would say get a 60cm.

DIY is pretty easy if you have an accessible site. Good advice here as to how to line up the dish
