Help with freesat installation requirements

Hi, i am new to AVforums and totally hopeless at DIY and i am sure my question has been answered somewhere previously, but sorry, not sure where ???

I am a sky+ subscriber and am looking into getting freesat instead of multiroom for my bedroom (works out cheaper in the long run).

As I already have the sky dish, is it necessary for me to pay for installation from argos (was thinking of getting the cheapo bush freesat).

What are the requirements for me to do: e.g how do i check if i have a multi feed, if i don't how do i give myself a multi feed lol and what is a LNB, have read this on a few posts.... sorry I so do not know the correct terminology to be used and what else do i need to know

sorry for such a garbled post, but pls someone help me

If you have sky+ you already have all you need apart from maybe a second cable back to the lnb (the box at the end of the arm). If the bedroom box is a non recording box and you want to substitute a non recording box it's a straight swap but why bother a sky box with a non subscribed card will give you more channels than a freesat box anyway. It's only worthwhile if you want to record, in that case you will need to cable a second connection back to remaining spare output on the dish to feed a twin tuner freesat pvr.

LNB - low noise block down converter - reduces the very very high frequency signal from space to a frequency that can be transmitted over a coax cable

Hey Graham, thanks for ur reply. I don't have any box in the bedroom at present. I may be able to get another sky box, but how do i get a non subscribed card? and would i still need another cable, if yes, would this cable be from the sat dish to my bedroom

Misread your original post I thought you were getting rid of multiroom. You are clearly starting from scratch in the bedroom. Your lnb will have two spare outputs, you need to wire one or both of these to your bedroom. (One for a non recording box, two for a recording box). You don't need a card to use a sky box, it wiil get all the freesat channels without a card (you will need to use add channels to get CH5). A £20.00 Freesat From Sky card will add a few channels you can't get on freesat (Fiver, Five US and Sky 3 I think). You can use any sat box on this cable it does not have to be a Sky or Freesat box, there are hundreds of generic fta boxes that will work just fine though you won't get a fancy epg
