Social groups - your own place in the forums

For a little while now, we have had Social Groups at AVForums.com.
Social groups are areas within the forums where people with shared interests can meets, swap stories and experiences, share photos, arrange events and meetings and generally chat about specific topics of interets.
Social Groups are a little like your own forums which you can create and manage yourself.

You can find the Social Groups from the main menu Home -> Social Groups.
We currently have 4 categories : Football, Sport (for all other sports including motor sport), Video Gaming and General for everything else.
Any member can create a new Social Group and we encourage people to go ahead and create one if they think there will be sufficient interest. (Inactive groups will eventually be removed by admin).

There are a few settings which the owner of a group can control.
If you want your group to be successful, I strongly recommend that you
  • make your groups Public instead of Moderated (new members are only allowed in after you authorise them) or Invite Only.
  • make your groups viewable to non members (untick the box labelled Users must join to view the content).

I hope you enjoy the Social Groups.

Re: Social groups - your own place in the forums

Sorry Stuart, I don't see this as a good thing at all

I used to love going on the footy threads, as did many members

But this has totally killed the banter because you don't get the E-mail alerts, afaik????

Or am I wrong there?

That said, I understand why you wanted to move away some, because of the modding involved (neutral smiley).

Yes, you do get email alerts. Promotion of Social Groups here has nothing to do with moderating. Social Groups, I think, are a better way to organise groups of people into specific topics. They allow a better method of sharing photos and are effectively a way for you to start your own forums.

I'm not interested in sharing photos, more just talking footy, but I think I see what you're saying.
Okeydokey mate, I'll have another look at it
