Panasonic Convention 2009 Amsterdam - Product launch

AVForums.tv attended the Panasonic Convention 2009 held in Amsterdam on the 24th and 25th of February. This event is the company's European launch for their products due to hit shops and dealerships over the next 12 months and gives the AV press a look at the road map for the year ahead.

The product lines for at least their TV output this year is impressive and long, with so many model numbers it gets quite confusing. We have taken the time to list all the available Viera products below with tentative release dates and pricing. But first of all what did the European launch event tell us about the year ahead? Here is a blow by blow account of what was announced as it happened on Tuesday afternoon.

Quote:
David Mackenzie reports......... from the Panasonic press conference

13.30 hrs – Images of event to follow….

We’re here at the Panasonic Convention 2009 in Amsterdam, Holland! The first event is a 90-minute conference where Panasonic executives will talk to the press.

13.40hrs –

First up is Yorihisa Shiokawa, Managing Director for Panasonic Marketing Europe. He mentions the global economic crisis, but it seems that Panasonic are keeping positive. In fact, they say things have been quite good for them. It’s why the convention is so important this year - to show us the latest products.

In true Japanese business style, Yorihisa wastes no time in explaining what’s ahead: Panasonic’s goal is to become the #1 or #2 supplier in Viera (flat TV), Lumix (digital camera), HD Camcorder, and BD related products. With current times, Panasonic say that the emphasis must be on innovation in order to stay competitive. In particular, they want to stress the ease of use with their new Viera HDTVs. This is realised through VIERA CAST and VIERA LINK.

Conversation then changes to Blu-ray Disc, in particular, BD recording devices. There is continued adoption of HD broadcasting throughout Europe, so Panasonic will be introducing BD recorders across the continent as free to air solutions appear. They already have a BD recorder in France (due to the fact that HD programming is available through TNT, the French equivalent of Freeview). Thanks to Freesat HD, a satellite-based, twin tuner model will be sold in the UK. It seems that Panasonic want to offer a good recording solution for customers not interested in subscribing to additional pay-TV services.

Innovation is also coming from their R&D activities: NeoPDP brings a competitive advantage, as does 3D Home Theater, which is being developed with Hollywood studios.

Due to the economic situation, Panasonic are diversifying and are more strongly pushing “white goods” (major domestic appliances). Energy saving and low noise are the key in this product category.

1410hrs –

Next up is Markus Recihling, Head of environmental affairs. He introduces “ECO IDEAS”, which is Panasonic’s environmental strategy. Panasonic has always had the evironment at the core of its corporate philosophy - in fact a quote is shown from Konosuke Matsushita, the founder of Panasonic: “Even though industrial development is important, [...] it should not harm the environment or make people miserable”.

Panasonic will be launching what they call “Superior Green Products”. By March 2010, Panasonic’s TV factory in Pilsen, Czech Republic will be the first ECO IDEAS factory in Europe. (By the way, “Superior Green” means that these will be designed to be the most energy efficient products in their respective categories). The focus then moves on to VIERA TV. Mr Fuji, the senior general manager of Panasonic AVC group takes the stand. He says that in 2009, the flat TV market is expected to grow 116% up from last year. So, Panasonic have a great chance, despite the recession.

Panasonic promise improvements in energy reduction, thickness, moving picture resolution, and contrast. As a videophile, it is great to see Panasonic explicitly market these last two as selling points (they have special marketing logos made up for them), but it is not surprising given the company’s strong investment in Plasma technology. For 2009 model NeoPDPs, Moving Picture Resolution is claimed at “1080 lines or more”, and 40,000:1 contrast. Then in 2010, NeoPDP ECO: Infinity:1 contrast is promised!

NeoPDP power consumption is reduced by 1/3rd compared to conventional Plasma Display Panel. Also for fans of LCD technology, New IPS Alpha panels claim to have halfed the power consumption thanks to high-transmissivity and sectional backlight control. Panasonic recognize that moving picture resolution is an essential factor in picture quality. IPS-a 2009: over 900 lines resolution. New IPS-a: 1000 lines. And NeoPDP, 1080 lines.

Digital Hearth Concept (that’s “Hearth”, not a typo for “Health”!) Home networking is the key factor. The TV will be at the heart of a system including internet, Air Con, Fridge, Lights, Cameras, YouTube, Picasa Web Albums... convergence like never before! VIERA CAST is introduced. It’s been around since 2008. It’s already been in the US. Now we’re allowed to have it. Oh. It’s a system which brings news casting, YouTube, Picasa, and other content to your home TV. It operates from the WORLD WIDE Web, so why is it appearing in Europe so late, Panasonic?

14.30hrs –

Anyway - they want to take VIERA beyond television and move closer to home integration? “From home to outdoor”. Presumably content on Panasonic SD cards is the idea here.

3D Full HD is discussed; they see it as an upgrade to 1080p. It’s 1080p/60 based, images for left and right eyes are stored, and shutter glasses make the effect work.

A load of new VIERA models are now shown: Z, V, G, S, X, C Series. The Z-Series styling is silver (yay!), the other series are traditional Panasonic black.

Blu-ray Disc 2009 strategy: BD is expanding rapidly. Panasonic expect that BD product will account for 64% of optical disc sales by 2011. Right now it’s 31%, and is growing at an alarming rate year on year.

Panasonic can be a leader in BD because of their advanced SemiConductor technology: the Uniphier, which is a single chip LSI. It’s created with a 45nm process (resulting in a tiny chip), and apparently it can not just decode AVCHD but ENcode it as well. It also features low power consumption (of course) and Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory Reference Chroma Processor, (which is a good way of staying competitive against other very similar BD players I must add).

Slim BD ROM drive tech has also been developed to realize portable and slim products: Eco friendly with less parts.

Panasonic then state that Ultimate picture and sound quality is the goal, followed by ease of use, then networking capability. Finally, being eco friendly is important to them (in case you forgot!)

DMP-BD80 and DMP-BD60 coming. Chroma Processor Plus developed by PHL will be in these machines (so you can reproduce coloured film grain in the manner intended by the cinematographers, reconstructing coloured details lost due to BD’s 4:2:0 chroma format). Also, the first BD recorder in the UK will be the DMR-BS850. It will have twin Freesat HD tuners (there is no terrestrial functionality - only a satellite product).

Audio Products too: the BD Home Theater. These include speakers with Bamboo Cones, for reproducing Clear Dialogue, and a Kelton Type Subwoofer for Powerful Bass Sound. Finally, this section ends with Panasonic mentioning global market share targets. They want to have 20%+ of the global BD Player market and 40%+ of the BD recorder market.

14.40hrs-

Tetsuro Homma, Director, Media Business Unit takes the stand.

As he appears, a clip of a well regarded BD from NHK plays. He mentions that the encoding and authoring process of this content was done by Panasonic Authoring Center Tokyo.

He says that Panasonic is the Expert in Blu-ray Disc Media Technology - and this counts for both ROM discs as well as -R and -RE. A lot of discussion about recordable disc follows. Panasonic are promoting ‘green archiving’: encouraging consumers to fill an optical recordable disc. When we burn recordable discs, typically they are not full, which over the long term is a waste of plastic. They want us to fill our discs!

Panasonic are also pushing BD as an archiving medium, which is very surprising. Convincing businesses that recordable optical disc is suitable for this task is going to be a challenge, if you ask me...

He then discusses SD card and how it’s the market leader for memory card. So, get ready for SDXC, the next-gen version! The cards can hold up to 2 terabytes, and will be based on the EXFAT file system instead of the current FAT32-based cards. 64gb cards will appear in the first half of 2010.

15.00hrs -

That’s it - the conference ends, and the giant projection screen moves upwards, revealing an array of Panasonic products which have been behind the stage all along, including the 150” Plasma, NeoPDP panels, and more
So with the conference out of the way it was time to look at certain areas in some more depth and AVForums were also invited to a behind the curtain event on Blu-ray technology. This basically confirmed what Panasonic are doing with their Uniphier all in one chip.

And then it was on to the full product line on Wednesday with a guided tour of the new TV’s and BD machines in a trade show style lay out. This was quite in-depth and allowed hands on with some products. We were also treated to a demo of the company's 3D HD system which Panasonic hopes will become the standardised system in the industry.

Video from the Convention

And finally we provide you with product photographs and press releases for the new Viera TVs and Blu-ray players.

In 2008, Panasonic announced the development of next-generation plasma display panels (PDPs) called NeoPDP technology which used ground-breaking technologies that offered better picture quality, higher efficiency and thinner dimensions than its predecessors. After thoroughly reviewing its existing IC technology and panel structures, Panasonic developed new phosphors and cell design technology for improved discharge and new circuit and drive technology to significantly reduce power loss. These new technologies will be introduced for the first time in its flagship Z1 series, V10 series, G15 and G10 series.

As a result, Panasonic has improved motion image performance, contrast and colour reproduction in its plasma displays to achieve a level of picture quality that is simply unprecedented. To improve motion images, the Z1 series, V10 series, G15 and G10 series adopt Panasonic's 600Hz Sub-field Drive Intelligent Frame Creation Pro, which helps achieve 1080 line motion picture resolution*1. Even fast-moving objects are clear and sharp. Users enjoy a truly stunning viewing experience, especially with ultra-dynamic action and sports scenes such as motor car racing events and car chases.

The Z1 series, V10 series, G15 and G10 series also deliver a remarkable dynamic contrast of over 2,000,000:1 thanks to the increased brightness achieved by NeoPDP technology and refinements to Panasonic's Real Black Drive System (a pre-discharge system). With these enhancements, the new models provide the kind of "infinite black" colour that pulls viewers right into the picture.

The Z1 series, V10 series and G15 series will feature VIERA CAST*2, making them the first models in Europe to offer this service. With VIERA CAST, viewers can access certain Internet content by simply clicking a button while sitting in their living room. For example, users can view such familiar content as Eurosport, YouTube and Picasa directly on their VIERA TV. Viewers can access other information too, such as news, weather forecasts and stock market information. DLNA connection is also possible with these three series. Digital data*3 such as motion images and still images saved onto a PC can be played on VIERA through a home network. For example, DivX content on a PC in the den can be viewed on a VIERA in the living room.

Panasonic has also further enhanced its innovative VIERA Link in all its models, which lets you use the VIERA remote control to operate devices connected to a VIERA TV via an HDMI cable. LUMIX digital cameras and the world's first portable Blu-ray Disc™ player have now joined the list of devices with VIERA Link compatibility. This means that if you connect a LUMIX camera to your VIERA TV, you can use the VIERA remote to control playback of the still or motion images*4 stored on the camera. VIERA Link is environment-friendly too. It helps save energy by automatically powering-down connected devices, switching them to Intelligent Auto Stand-by or Stand-by Power Save mode. The new VIERA models reflect Panasonic's focus on improving operating ease and entertainment while giving full consideration to the environment.

The VIERA Image Viewer has been added to all 2009 models. By simply inserting an SD card into the slot on VIERA, users can view motion and still images recorded in different formats with a LUMIX camera or compatible camcorder. For more viewer impact and entertainment fun, users can add background music and image effects to their still-image slideshows.

With its lead-free and 100,000-hour long-life plasma display panels, Panasonic continues to create products that stand out for environmental performance. All series in this year’s line-up are environment-friendly, and incorporate environment-friendly functions. Eco mode, for example, reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting screen luminance according to room brightness and other viewing conditions.

“Panasonic’s superior quality, connectivity and service continues to distinguish the VIERA line,” said Fabien Roth, Senior Marketing Manager, Panasonic TV Group. “We will introduce our own next-generation plasma display panels (PDPs) in four series including our flagship Z1 Series resulting in brighter panels, deeper blacks and superior moving picture resolution. We will also introduce our VIERA CAST service for the first time and continue to improve the functionality of VIERA Link. With all the new expanded features and screens sizes in our new VIERA line-up, we will be providing the ultimate viewing experience.”

re: Panasonic Convention 2009 Amsterdam - Product launch

Panasonic Introduces VIERA Flat Screen Televisions that are THX® Certified

Amsterdam, the Netherlands (February 24, 2009) – Panasonic today announced that it will introduce four VIERA flat screen models which are THX® Certified in its 2009 line-up: the VIERA Z1 Series (TX-P54Z1 54-inch and the TX-P46Z1 46-inch), and the VIERA V10 Series (TX-P50V10 50-inch class and the TX-P42V10 42-inch).

THX set strict standards in its THX Display Certification for such items as black levels, resolution, contrast and colour gamut to ensure the highest display performance. The settings are based according to standards used by cinematographers making it ideal for passionate home cinema and movie enthusiasts. THX engineers have also created a battery of signal processing tests that challenge a display’s scaling, motion conversion and de-interlacing capabilities. This type of in-depth analysis predicts how a display will present a variety of high definition and standard definition content, and highlights any areas that may require technical improvement by the manufacturer.

THX certification begins during the initial product design phase and has three primary goals – to drive quality in manufacturing, optimize image quality and signal processing, and to help simplify the consumer’s buying decisions.

In addition to being THX Certified, the four models feature the innovative VIERA CAST® functionality, allowing the consumer to access select internet sites without the need for an external box or PC. Each display provides 1080 lines moving picture resolution, 600Hz Sub-field Drive IFC Pro, VIERA Image Viewer™ – allows for easy playback of digital photos and HD video - multiple HDMI inputs and the proprietary VIERA Link™, a technology that employs HDMI-CEC to operate the audio/video components with one remote.

Panasonic and European Online Content Partners to Ring in New Era of Web Viewing

VIERA CAST provides direct access to online content from a large HDTV screen

Amsterdam, the Netherlands (February 24, 2009) – Panasonic Europe Ltd. has introduced three models of its VIERA plasma HDTVs that are Internet-enabled and provide access to online video content directly from the living room, without the need to use a computer. The VIERA CAST service is introduced in Europe with three series of the new Panasonic line-up of NeoPDP flat screens – Z1 Series, V10 Series, and G15 series – as well as two full-HD LCD series – V10 Series and G15 Series. The technology is complemented by a rich selection of online content that has become available through Panasonic’s partnerships with leading content providers such as YouTube, Google’s Picasa, Eurosport, Bloomberg for financial news, and local weather information. To complement the exclusive content from Eurosport for the European market, Panasonic has now also forged an alliance with ARD Television.

VIERA CAST delivers online content via an Internet connection to the new Panasonic 2009 VIERA HDTV range. Users can simply plug the Ethernet cable into the back of the television. Switching from a normal TV programme to VIERA CAST is done by pressing the VIERA CAST button on the VIERA TV remote control. VIERA CAST requires no additional registration or subscription. The content offerings vary for different local markets, and viewers can select their own language. A total of 1,200 sport videos will be available on Eurosport for the start of the VIERA CAST service, which will be transmitted in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian. The viewing experience is greatly enhanced by the ultra-fast response time of the VIERA TVs – ideal for fast-moving sporting images. The service will commence in May with the introduction of the VIERA V10 Series. The range of VIERA CAST will be available in sizes from 32” to 54”.

The online video offering for Europe has now been further enhanced with programming from an important content provider as Tagesschau from ARD, the most popular news programme for German-speaking audiences in the evening, will be available on VIERA CAST. Tagesschau.de has a news ticker application on top and allows viewers to see the latest Tagesschau programme either in its entirety or by topic. The ARD content will be available mainly in German-speaking countries in Spring 2009.

“The rich online video content from our European partners is a perfect match for Panasonic’s newly expanded HDTV line-up,” said Yorihisa Shiokawa, Managing Director of Panasonic Marketing Europe. “The combination of the VIERA CAST service and localized online video provides users with an unprecedented viewing experience and entertainment choice at the touch of a button.”

Panasonic Convention 2009 Amsterdam - New product line up

Panasonic Introduces Two Blu-ray Disc Players that Combine High-Quality Images with Enhanced Networking Functions

Amsterdam, the Netherlands (February 24, 2009) – Panasonic today announced that it will introduce two new Blu-ray Disc players, the DMP-BD80 and DMP-BD60 with advanced imaging technologies, easy operation and versatile networking. The DMP-BD80 is distinguished by its superb sound quality and the DMP-BD60 offers all the basic functions needed for great Blu-ray entertainment.

DMP-BD60

The DMP-BD80 and DMP-BD60 incorporate the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed at the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high-image-quality processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colours that are extremely faithful to the original film. Each model also features a high-definition Audio Decoder (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio Essential) to take advantage of the exceptionally high-quality 7.1-channel surround sound now incorporated in Blu-ray DiscTM. VIERA CAST compatibility also lets users access the Internet and easily view motion images from YouTubeTM and photos from PicasaTM. BD-Live* lets users enjoy bonus content available with Blu-ray DiscTM and play games on the Internet. These two Blu-ray DiscTM players excel in environmental performance as well, with features such as the VIERA Link Eco functions of Intelligent Auto Standby Mode and Standby Power Save Mode.

DMP-BD80

The DMP-BD80 and DMP-BD60 Blu-ray DiscTM players is ideal for those users who want outstanding picture and sound quality plus easy operation, a range of networking functions, and good environmental performance.

Features

PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus
PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus is a high quality image-processing technology developed by Panasonic to precisely process each pixel of the Blu-ray DiscTM video signal in the vertical direction. It reproduces colour data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems to keep colours faithful and sharp.

High Precision 4:4:4
Panasonic's newly developed high-precision 4:4:4 signal technology also processes each pixel of the Blu-ray DiscTM video signal in the horizontal direction, to complement vertical direction processing. When viewed on a VIERA high-end model, which features 4:4:4 signal compatibility, it recreates images with the original film quality to further enhance movie enjoyment.

P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD)
P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel. This allows it to render progressive images superbly, express motion smoothly, and draw crisp diagonal lines.

Precise Pixel Generation
Draws on 60 pixels of information to generate 1 pixel.

16-Level Motion Detection
Categorizes the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels.

Diagonal Processing
Quickly detects diagonals and applies correction to the pixels accordingly.

1080p Up-Conversion
Up-converts content recorded in the 576i/p or 720p format to 1080p.

3:2/2:2 Pull-Down
The system detects whether the Blu-ray DiscTM or DVD signal contains video content or a movie. In the case of a movie, the signal is converted from 24p to 50p for TV screen display.

HD Audio Decode
The Blu-ray DiscTM players feature decoders that are compatible with all of the latest 7.1-channel surround sound formats used by the Blu-ray Disc™ standard.

High Clarity Sound (DMP-BD80)
When the analogue video terminal is not being used, the electrical current that flows through the analogue video circuit can be stopped. This prevents adverse effects on the audio signals and produces clearer sound.
* This functions only for Blu-ray disc™, DVDs, CDs and SD memory cards.

96-kHz Surround Re-master
The 96-kHz Sound Re-master function enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even raises the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Disc™ and DVDs. It increases the amount of sound information, to produce highly realistic sounds.

7.1ch Analogue Out (DMP-BD80)
The 7.1-channel analogue signal converted by the new 192kHz D/A converter is transmitted in high quality. This signal can be connected to a receiver that does not support HDMI.

VIERA Link Seamless GUI
You Can Control Your Blu-ray DiscTM Player with the TV Remote Control*
When the TV is on, the VIERA Link function lets you switch to Blu-ray DiscTM player mode using just the Panasonic Flat TV’s remote control unit. Simply press the VIERA Link button on the TV’s remote control and select "Player" on the VIERA Link Menu screen. The Blu-ray DiscTM player's menu will display on the TV screen, and you can begin playback of a Blu-ray discTM or select from the Blu-ray discTM menu.

*This function is available for Panasonic products that support VIERA Link (HDAVI Control 3 or above).

Playback Information Window (DMP-BD80)
This window can be used to display detailed image information while a movie is playing, for easy confirmation.

Networking
VIERA CAST

Because these models are compatible with the VIERA CAST function, you can access YouTubeTM, PicasaTM, and other Internet sites from the special VIERA CAST screen. YouTubeTM lets you watch the newest video clips, and PicasaTM lets you view Web-based photos. You can also check weather and stock information on other sites.

*VIERA CAST home screen design image is subject to change without notice.
*The application services offered by VIERA CAST are operated by their respective providers. Therefore, Panasonic will assume no responsibility for the continuity or the content of the services.
*Not all features of websites may be available.
*Some content may be inappropriate for some viewers.
*Some content may only be available for specific countries and may be presented in specific languages.

BD-Live
BD-Live*
lets users access the internet to download data such as images and subtitles, and join in quizzes and multi-player interactive games that are linked to bonus movie content contained on Blu-ray DiscTM. BD-Live also supports BONUSVIEW.
*BD-ROM Profile 2. To enjoy additional contents (such as BD-Live) on certain Blu-ray DiscTM titles, you will need to insert an SD memory card (1GB or more of free space/Sold separately). Requires broadband Internet service for a fee.

Networking with SD Memory Card and USB Terminal
These Blu-ray DiscTM players are equipped with an SD memory card slot and USB Terminal, so you can immediately view motion images recorded with an HD camcorder in AVCHD format*, and JPEG images taken with a digital still camera.
* AVCHD-format on USB devices cannot be playback.

Slideshow with Music
Enjoy watching memorable photos recorded onto an SD Memory Card in a slideshow backed by your favourite CD music and three transition effects.

Environmental Features
Intelligent Auto Standby
After using the Blu-ray DiscTM player, it is automatically turned off when you return to TV operation using the VIERA Link menu.
* 2009 VIERA TV
** Compatible with HDAVI Control 2 or above products.

Standby Power Save
When VIERA is turned off, it automatically turns off the Quick Start function as well. When VIERA is turned on, Quick Start also turns on.
* 2009 VIERA TV
** The power consumption value differs depending on the disc and the usage conditions.

Panasonic Blu-ray Recorders for the UK

Although the samples were on show at the convention, there is no official press release to accompany these new BD recorders, so very few details are known.

What we can say for certain is that there will be two models, the DMR-BS750 and DMR-BS850. Both will have HDD drives and record HD programmes from Freesat (using dual tuners) to the HDD drives. (BS750 has 250GB, BS850 has 500GB). You can then copy these materials to the BD drive to record - after compression otherwise the discs will not play in other BD players. Plus, and this is the real sting in the tail - some material you record from Freesat may have copy protection flags meaning you can store them on the HDD but not copy them to BD disc.

The recorders use various compression modes with the highest being 12mbps with the lowest at 4mbps (we saw some material at this compression rate and they looked worse than SD DVD recordings). There is however a DR mode (direct recording) which records without recompression but further details on this are still sketchy. It will also support AVCHD from camcorders and offers the majority of the functionality of the playback machines such as PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus.

More information as we get it on these items.

When are you expecting some kit for a full review?

I assume that despite some of the kit having THX Certification they are no more ISF friendly then previous Panasonic models?

We grabbed a remote control with the product manager but the models at the event didn't have the full menu systems working yet, so we will not know that until we get them in for review.
I have put an order in for product which I hope we will receive soon.

I did have a long chat with the product managers and engineers at the event and have asked them to look at ISFccc and consider this for future models, or at the very least full greyscale and CMS controls. I hope that the feedback given finds its way to the right people.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing the new products for review and we will update you as soon as the samples start to arrive.

BTW, this post wasn't all my own work, David Mackenzie was on hand to help out with filming and the press conference write up, boy can he type fast!

Nice one Phil, thanks for all the info. Your efforts are well appreciated.
I wonder if the new screens will beat the Pioneer KRP's?
Just got a 60" so I hope not!
Finally BD-HDD Recorders!

Thanks Phil.

What model have you ordered, or is it lucky dip?

I guess you must have discussed black levels with the engineers?!!? Are they expected to the be the same across the range?

Finally, did they go into the 24p handling at all?

Hi,

Personally, I am very upset there will be no 46" V10 Plasma - It would have suited me perfectly due to space limitations! Why has Panasonic chosen to dilute sizes in some ranges and not on others and do so in a staggered manner I wonder?

Suave!

Re: Panasonic Convention 2009 Amsterdam - Product launch

It was hard to tell what the final picture quality will be like on these new screens as it was almost set out like a trade show. They were all showing generic demo material which makes it hard to judge black levels and how they will handle film material. The picture processing was covered in some depth and hopefully you will get more information from the video when published.

My talk (along with David) with the engineers and product managers was more about calibration and that the market needs a replacement for the out going kuros. I know the people I spoke too get the technical needs for such items, so we will have to wait and see if that information gets passed up the line.

Suave!
We are not sure why that is the case, although much was made about how different plants cut glass at different sizes to save waste and energy. It could be that those plants can only supply enough for so many models in a year? That's what I'm guessing with what was said during the convention, however when I get the chance I will send your question to my contacts for an answer.

The most interesting part for me is the statement

Then in 2010, NeoPDP ECO: Infinity:1 contrast is promised!
Which together with this slide I'd seen

Makes me wonder if the 2010 NeoPDP Eco models will be based on the Pioneer Extreme Contrast concept shown at CES 2008. Pioneer engineers did transfer over to Panasonic last year to start working on the new panels for joint Pioneer (obviously Pioneer will now not be using these) & Panasonic use.

Yes, they have a 150" plasma, it has been around for a while now and is 4K2K. They also have one at 103".

Re: Panasonic Convention 2009 Amsterdam - Product launch

*In the case of a movie, the signal is converted from 24p to 50p for TV screen display.* presumably this is only going to apply if the tv can't except 24fps. seemed a strange line to put in their bluray release. you would have thought that they would be pushing the virtues of 24fps.

Re: Panasonic Convention 2009 Amsterdam - Product launch

Why is the PIP not on the G10..the freesat models had it last year and it seems very poor not to have it on so called well equiped plasmas. Is it even on the G15?
