Thank you!

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all AVForums members and visitors. We had over 1 million unique users in November, showing that with your help, our community is going from strength to strength.
We are continuing to work hard to bring you new movie and hardware reviews, podcasts and other content. And we also continue to work hard, with the invaluable help of the moderators, to ensure that despite being big, we retain as friendly an atmosphere as possible.
All suggestions on how to improve the website are, as always, welcome.

Re: Thank you!

I wonder how many signed up in the last month due to the Scan free postage deal?
I'd be interested as I know this deal got posted on several forums & as such I reckon many will not visit again.

During that busy time, I would say that near 2,000 extra people signed up because of the scan deal.
That's about an additional, maybe 8 days worth in one go.
That, of course, is a good thing, because a certain percentage of those people will become regular members.
We continue with our policy of removing inactive members' accounts, so for those people who let their email addresses become invalid, and don't update AVForums, their account will be deleted in 90 days.

Well I have to say that I'm truly surprised that you get on average 2000 extra members over a weekly period. This shows then that the word of AVForums is truly getting around.

Yes one would certainly hope so (I wonder what percentage that would be?) even if it took a deal for them to sign up of which I'm supposing this was a part of your aim.

I know i'm being nosey but what happens to the Scan accounts re: free delivery,if they become inactive "members"?.

The deal is for AVForums members. On another site, the offer is only open to actively posting members with more than 25 posts.

Re: Thank you!

Stuart, just for clarification, what exactly do you mean by unique visitor?

For example, if I visit the site 7 times in a week does that make me one (1) unique visitor, or seven (7) unique visitors?

Nothing other than curiosity makes me ask this question.

Cheers,

Martin.

If you visit the site 7 times in any period, then in that period, you were 1 unique visitor with 7 visits.
According to Google Analytics (which is conservative if anything), we had, in November, 1,422,429 visitors, 2,813,681 visits and 17,334,682 page views.
We've had over a million unique visitors for some time, but Google Analytics includes our archive which carries no advertising. For this reason, we didn't want to announce the 1 million statistic until the number of visitors seeing adverts rose to that number. Otherwise advertisers might think we're cheating.

Re: Thank you!

Reccomended Scan via AVForums to some friends of mine darn sarth - they have had massive problems. Not with Scan but with the courier City Link.

I am disappointed;

1. Because it makes AVFoums look bad to new members

2. Because Scan are aware of this and still stay with their courier.

3. Because i'm embarrassed when I recommend a product/sevice to friends which is endorsed by AVForums and fails to live up to expectations.

Let's face it, there will be problems with EVERY courier at some point. It's hardly our fault. Or yours.

Re: Thank you!

Congrats to all those who work their little intergrated circuits off to help in running this friendly AV forum. I have, as with others, gleaned a lot of helpfull information on my favourite hobby, well the one you can have the most fun with without taking your kit off anyway.
I also hope with my little input from time to time that I've also been helpfull to others.

I will now take this opportunity to wish all on these forums a healthy (without that you have nothing) happy and prosperous new year.

Very true

I don't need to wish you a good one, do I?
You'll be coining it in, hopefully

Re: Thank you!

Great milestone Stuart, and thanks for making this forum the best on the net. However, the figures have me wondering - does the number of users signify a demographic of happy audiophiles, all rushing home at night to chill to their favourite CD/DVD/download, or does it represent a seething mass of troubled souls who go home and try to get their kit to work yet again before crying for help on these pages?

Just a thought.

Dave
