AV Forums are looking to expand the DVD review team. Are you interested?

The AV Forums DVD reviews are expanding in size and content so we are currently looking for new reviewers to join the team. This is unpaid but rewarding work where you will be given the chance to write for Europe’s largest AV related forum and our new online DVD magazine AV Play. So what are we looking for?
  • We are looking for dedicated individuals who can spare a few hours each week to watch and review DVD’s sent to them. Usually there will be around 4 or 5 a month.
  • We are looking for someone who can write to the current standard featured in our reviews, who can check their own work for spelling and grammar and who have access to a PC (with word), a DVD Rom drive and software to create screen captures.
  • We are looking for someone who will work hard and be reliable for hitting deadlines set. All review discs sent will be kept by the reviewer. There is no monetary payment for this work. Applicants must be 18 or over.

  • We are looking for someone who has a full home cinema system with at least a 32” display and a minimum of Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 sound.

  • We are looking for someone who has a good knowledge of the DVD format and potential problems which may exist in transfers and sound. They must also be interested in new formats such as HD DVD and Blue Ray. They must be able to pick up on problems such as edge enhancement, macro blocking and be able to discuss what makes a transfer look good or bad.

  • We also require reviewers to have a good working knowledge of cinema and feature films, someone who can comment through experience with all types of genres.

  • Review discs will vary from the biggest blockbusters to the more obscure art house titles and a reviewer should be able to feature both within their remit. We expect reviewers to cover all the different releases from Blockbusters, TV series and the occasional Golden Oldie.

Whilst writing for us is unpaid work, it also gives you the opportunity to showcase your writing ability and style. You will be a valued member of a hard working team and writing for the UK’s largest review and forum sites will give you the opportunity to expand your talents and add another valuable asset to your CV. You will also be given the opportunity to expand your role as a reviewer to content writing and special features on AV Play when it is launched.

To apply please send an email with details of your writing experience, system details and contact telephone number to phil@avplay.com Please include two reviews written by you and which are based on our current format.

DVD News reporter and Feature writers required.

Due to expansion of the DVD reviews and imminent arrival of our Online DVD magazine site AV Play, we are looking for volunteers for the following positions.
  • Features writer. This can be a one off article or a series of articles on DVD. Topics are entirely the choice of the writers but should include, DVD technology such as Soundtracks, or explanations of industry know how. If you are a manufacturer of DVD products or next generation players or just an industry insider with all the knowledge we would love to hear from you. We also welcome serious enthusiasts who want to write about different genres of film, the DVD experience today or even the arrival of the new High Definition formats. As long as you want to write about DVD and Movies and can spare the time to produce well written articles, we want to hear from you. Email phil@avplay.com to discuss.
  • DVD News Reporter. We are also looking for interested individuals to help with the daily input of DVD news from around the globe. This will involve scouring the internet for suitable stories as well as dealing with Press Releases from film studios. Whether you can offer your services daily or just a few hours a week let us know. Contact phil@avplay.com

  • Gaming Features and Reviews. We are looking for individuals who have a gaming background and writing talent to expand and develop our gaming features and to review the latest software products. Contact damon@avplay.com
