Anyone else think the winter testing ban has robbed us of an up to speed Schumacher at the start of the season. I've never been a Schumacher fan, but he seems lost at sea at the minute, paling as he currently is against his team mate, Rosberg. The sooner we see him at whatever peak he can reach, the better.

So you're ignoring the option that we're already seeing him at said peak? Personally I find it very entertaining to watch him get repeatedly outperformed by his team mate

Yeah, thats possible, but would be very suprised if we were. Hoping really that he ups his game, and so do Mercedes, as like him or not, we all want to see him wheel to wheel with the current best drivers.

It's always possible, and I don't think he'd cope very well with that, but he has only had a couple of test drives, and two races in a car very different from his last proper F1 drive.

I would be surprised if he doesn't find a bit of speed somewhere, but Rosberg is quite under-rated overall, and dojng well against Schumacher will do him no harm in the long term.

Well he doesn't have anything to lose really, but I still think it was a mistake him coming back. People will say 'he was injured and he's 41 now' rather than saying 'He's not good enough anymore' or 'The youngers guys are better'.

I predict MS will not win a race all season and finish behind Rosberg come the season end.

I am finding it amusing that in Shuey's former F1 life the opposition just used to clear a path for him almost.

Nowaday's everyone see's him as a new boy and doesn't want to give in easily - just look at Alguer-howdyaspellit in Australia...

If it's a very wet track in Sepang it could suit Schuey, rain hardly ever seemed to slow him down.

I think his real problem, leaving age aside,is that he's been away for afew years, and both the cars, and the drivers have changed.

When he last raced,he was usually only up against one other world champion at a time, and mostly in very good cars.
This year's car isnt quite up to speed, and there are some very competitive drivers out there, all of whom are thoroughly up to speed.

Didn't slow him down though did it - well, not until the impact anyway!

That footage of him storming down the pit to the McLaren garage was TV gold...

Seems like the FOTA teams have been discussing KERS. Wonder if we will see KERS this year again. The McLarens should be good then with KERS and F-Duct.

Confirmed (as Brundle let slip last week) DC to join the DTM this year.

BBC Sport - F1 - BBC F1 pundit David Coulthard returns to racing in DTM

Assume it'll be on ESPN again this year (along with Superleague Formula that starts this weekend).

Jon Noble on Twitter says rain on the way for quali...let's see.

i think they are expecting it,the f1 website shows rain for today and for tomorrow...should make things interesting but don't want it to influence the race too much.

It's the issue by holding it this time of year in Malaysia...it's very difficult to predict only that there probably will be a downpour late afternoon it's just where and when.

The storm on Thursday evening @ 17:20 (i.e. 1hr20 into the race as we start an hour earlier this year) would of been a red flag by all accounts.

thats what i mean about not having too much influence,if there is too much it could spoil it but a bit of rain could make it more interesting.looking forward to see if they take it into account for quali.

I agree it makes more interesting however this year the new teams are so slow that's it's unlikely to catch any of the big guys out (he says tempting fate) in Q1. Now if we get some in Q2....

...and here's the rain.

EDIT: I did say I was tempting fate surprised everyone didn't go out an do a banker lap...this might get very interesting.

SECOND EDIT: Reverse grid fans will get something tomorrow...needed time for another lap by which time it would've been dry enough.

As fun as this is there is a stage when questions need to be asked about hosting a GP at this time of year in Malaysia and delaying the start of sessions to suit European TV (especially as a lot of those broadcasters probably don't want to fill for hours during a rain delay).

you are assuming that the people who run f1 know what they are doing or care what happens as long as they make as much money as possible.

True but as much as broadcasters want to have the races in a slot that suits them they don't want a race like last year or a qualifying like Brazil. We all remember ITV and 'Coronation Street follows this programme' being flashed up every few minutes for evening races.

Bringing it back another hour to 8am BST (9am CET) would mean we'd have got qualifying in on time and likely get most of the race in (at least enough to award full points).
