Then i thought i can just extend it myself with some connector blocks, ensuring the cable used is of a similar rating.
Is this a good idea?, would you recommend i don't do this?, will there be any adverse affects?, or is there no reason why i can not do this.

Hi all,

In a quest for a better room layout i am considering having the chimney breast removed from our lounge.
The house is a 3 bed semi - 1930's i believe.

The chimney breast sticks out approx 18" in the lounge but, directly above it, upstairs in the bedroom it only sticks out around 6" so it appears to be like the below:

| |
| |
| | bedroom
|_|__________
| |
| | lounge
| |
|___|__________

hopefully my artwork makes sense

There is no fireplace in the bedroom, and don't think there ever has been as there is no evidence of a hearth in there.

So, where would i go from here?
I'm guessing that with it being a shared wall (with my neighbour) this may make things difficult?

With the stack not going directly up through into the bedroom (as per drawing above) it seems like it's not directly supporting much of the load?
I know it's always difficult without actually seeing the thing, but just wondered if anybody had come across this type of thing before?

Hi,

I looked at doing this a few years back, and the cost was going to be too much. But, started thinking about it again.

I have a cellar, approx 12 foot by 12 foot. Its not terribly damp, but has the gas and eletrci meters in, which would need boxing in. It also has an old coal shute, which we originally wanted to put a window into. The room is tall enough not to require too much (if any) digging down.

Any ideas on current methods and approx costs for this? It would be a full conversion, so tanking system, flooring, plastering, window, stairs, eletrics/wiring. Theres already a radiator down there, so thats not needed.

Cheers for any ideas.

I am just about to move out of a house and need to remove about 4 metres of self-adhesive trunking that I had used to hide cables for my wall mounted TV and speakers.

My only thoughts so far are to start with a hairdryer (to soften the adhesive) then use cotton thread to "cut" through the adhesive layer and finish of with some solvent (eg white spirits).

I could just try yanking it of the wall but dont want to risk large anounts of paint and plaster coming with it.

I know that I will have to do some repainting afterwards - just want to keep it to a minimum of sanding and painting - definately no plastering.

All sugestions gratefully received

Hi all
OK, i've laid out my trunking for wall mounting my TV and laid all my speaker cables behind the plaster board.

After the plasterer has been i'm ready to paint and get the TV mounted but i'm really unsure on how to do this.

I have the plasterboard then a 25mm gap. After that is a kind of breezeblock material which is 100mm deep. I say 'kind of' breezeblock because it's really very very easy to cut through it. I can cut through it with a knife in fact. Behind that is about a 50mm gap and then the bricks.

Anyway, anyone have any ideas how best to do this? It's a 46" TV and it's listed as being 25Kg in weight.

Hi guys,

Just moved in to a new flat which is timber framed. I haven't had a decent enought chance to check, but I think its just stud framework between me and the flat next door.

I want to do a floating wall but would like the TV mounted to the real wall so it is more flush with the floating wall (like Groove's floating wall)

What can I do to fix the TV to the wall. It will be the same as Grooves in that the mount will be fixed on to the timber work of the floating wall, which in turn should be mounted to the battens of the main wall.

My idea is to build my framework in relation to the real stud work behing the plaster, then fix up with horizontal battens and screw the mount directly into these, rather than fixing to the real wall.

Does this sound feasible?

It's a 42" Panny G10

Ok, im about to put the floorboards back down in the lounge and everything is in place, but before I do that I want to make sure I dont need to take them up again.

Currently I have the TV on one wall on its own, with cabling in trunking in the wall with a brush plate.

All the cables run to the 'box' cupboard, which contains a Sky+ box, and the all in one surround sound amp box.

This is whats cabled in.

1 HDMI cable - TV to all in one
1 Scart cable - TV to Sky+

2 Spare HDMI (1 for Sky HD, 1 spare)
1 2RCA Phono cable (Which im not sure im going to use it for if anything now :( )

1 Ethernet Cable from router to TV
1 Ethernet cable from router to 'cupboard'

Now its possible that at some point down the line I might get a
Wii, xbox or/and media center.

The xbox and media center should be ok with the spare HDMI to the TV.
But the Wii needs a component cable, which they dont do an official one at 10m. So will probably put in a standard component cable, and use a coupler to attach it to the official nintendo one.

But should I put anything else in between TV and cupboard, once the floorboards go down I dont want to have to get them up again!

Anyone spot a floor in the plan?
