Hi,

I am sorry I haven't contributed much to the forum, but I hope someone can help me with my current problem and I thought this would be the best place to post a tech question.

Basically I have a Sony DVP-NS708H which is an upscaler I bought on the basis that it was going to improve the picture of standard DVD's and good reviews I had read.

Now the problem is, when I plug it into the HDMI slot, the TV knows something is there but shows a black screen (when HDMI slot empty screen is blue) every 5 secs I hear a nano second of sound from a playing DVD. The TV is a Goodmans GTVL37W9HD.

I have tried several HDMI leads, and tried playing with some of the settings on the DVD player.

I have tested the Goodmans TV with my computer HDMI output and it works fine?

I have also tried the DVD Player on another TV (Panasonic one) and it worked without problem?

So why will the two not work together can anyone help solve this problem I am pulling my hair out! Seems like an incompatibility error?

Many Thanks

Hi,

Could anyone possibly recommend a DVD player which has Scart and on-board decoders with the 6 channel analogue out, please. to go in a legacy system?

They seem more difficult to find than rocking horse droppings now...

I really don't want to pay more than about £50

Since this is never going to happen I was wondering if an upgrade from my 868 to an Oppo DV-983 would be a smart move in the short term. Then in a year maybe Oppo will have their act together, and the value of my eldest child will have improved. :smashin: My guess is I could get £100 for my 868 and an 983 should be available for £160, so £60 difference.

I have tried every resolution setting on the DVD player by using the SD composite cable to get a functioning pic so I can get into the settings, nothing works on the HDMI output however, with just the static scrambled picture.

Please advise any tips or is this a case of dodgy HDMI handshake / tosh build quality.
