just bought a samsung tocco ultra from ebay

was sold as brand new in box sealed unlocked.

got the phone saturday

the box is security sealed and everything is deffo brand new inside
buit the phone does have vodaphone stamped on the front (the guy who sold it said it was unlocked as it was won in a competition and came direct from samsung)
anyway onto the real point
i put the battery in and turned it on and nothing totaly dead
so i plugged the charger in and it showed it was charging or so i thought but it had a blue bar going across the bottem and when the bar gets to the right hand side it beeps, then the screen changes to a battery charging screen for a few seconds then reverts back to the blue bar loading screen which beeps when it gets to the right hand side.
the only way to turn it on is when it shows the charging screen it flashes up with the vodaphone logo then dies.
if i unplug it from the charger even after charging it for 8+ hours it will not do anything it is totaly dead,it will only flash up the vodaphone screen when plugged in.

so can i assume that the phone is faulty ? or do these phones take 24hrs to charge or something stupid like that ?
i think its deffo faulty

I have in my hands a Samsung Omnia Pro B7610... so if anybody is interested and wants to know anything specifically, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

First impressions, bearing in mind I've had it for about an hour so far...

The Good:

Screen is lovely and clear
The screen is a very decent size and resolution is as good as any other
Keyboard is very good and very usable, although lacks an 'OK' button

The Bad:
It's pretty big... a very similar footprint to an iPhone, but twice the thickness.
It's slow. Flicking between the multiple homescreens, menus etc has a noticeable lag. When scrolling through screens, up and down menus and other such movement on screen there is a delay and a jerky movement.
Samsung have hidden everything behind their own UI, right down to the Start Menu and Settings. Some of it makes sense and it certainly looks prettier, other things aren't as logical as WM.

I have it for two weeks so will no doubt change my opinion on some of this stuff as time progresses. But it certainly lacks any form of 'wow factor' and to be honest, I'm not sure what this phones unique selling point is that would make you chose it over the other WM phones on the market?

If you want to know anything though, post here and I'll do what I can :)

Rob

I have recently acquired this handset.

From the outset, I am extremly pleased with this handset, I first saw it when my sister had it as an upgrade. I love the interface functions and think it is of excellent quality.

If I had anything negative to say, it would be that the battery power is not as good as the Sony Ericsson Walkman range, however, I would not trade the Samsung handset for the latter. I have noticed that you have to recharge this handset more regular. In a day of only making two calls (20min each) and some adhoc text plus the odd couple of (few min calls), my battery power bar reduced to 3bars, before my working day was over (4pm), I was on a single battery bar :thumbsdow

It took me while to get rid of the key touch beep sound, it was not easy to locate, dont like the fact there isn't a MUTE option - strange this is a generic option amongst the mobile phone range. However there is a way around this (not the most logical, but fit for purpose) :thumbsdow

No option to set incoming texts as BEEPs, I generally don't like sound for incoming text, especially when at work. Strange this is a generic option amongst the mobile phone ranges. BEEP sounds are more acceptable given specific environments. Again I found a way around this by reducing the sound volume to zero (MUTE) :thumbsdow

At times the touch facility is not too responsive, however, I prefer it that way as opposed to being too responsive, something you can adapt to

The Call Waiting functionality is not the most intuitive, however, you get to grips with it

Putting a person on hold to make a 2nd call, took me a while to work out, where i could select the new call via the contacts list. Initially it provides you the option to manually input the new callers phone number. I dont know about any one else, but I dont know any of my contacts numbers by memory :lesson:

No ANIMATED EMOTICONS, this is a blow!

The camera quality is excellent

The pictures and screen clarity is excellent

I love the new improved functionality (widgets etc), I like the navigation user navigation options, One favourite - upon selecting the 'call history' you have the option to either call or send texts to the recipient

I like the onscreen options when on a call

All in All I think this is an excellent handset, nothing is perfect. It is far better than the Sony Ericsson W910i which is thwart with problems. Which is the handset I replaced the Tocco with. The S8300 issues i have identified are trivial and can be lived with.
