I'm head up a video ministry for my church. We have two Pelco Dome PTZ Spectra cameras (which work perfectly). They are not the best quality, they are security cameras, but they work perfectly for what we need. We produce hundreds of VHS and DVDs every week. Just recently, our team "rebuilt" the room and we have run into a small problem. It appears that we have some interference coming through the main output feed.

So here is our setup:
(it is more complicated but this is the basics)

[Audio Compressor][Video Mixer Deck]
-------|-----------------|----------
--------\----------------/----------
---------\--------------/-----------
----------[Distribution Grid]---------
------------|--------|-------------
------[PC Capture][VCR Array]------

The video coming out of the Mixer Deck is perfect! The problem is once it passing through to the grid. The feed appears to pulsate. The only way I can explain what it looks like is: "Have you ever noticed what a video screen looks like when the room light is being jerked by the rotation of a ceiling fan. It appears as if the screen is pulsating very faintly." This is what it looks like...

Could this bee a ground loop issue? I am no professional at video, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that there is a problem. The video mixer and grid are both plugged into separate outlets.

Thanks

Hi guys,

I've had my Pioneer lx5090 for almost a year now. I've just been watching it with the supplied speakers so far - heresy, I know!

Well, I want to get into the world of home cinema, including surround sound, and I've just learnt that you can get dedicated 'video processors'. Yet another expense, as I'd just begun to learn about the whole AVR side of things, which I now learn is basically only about audio reproduction.

I have a few questions, and if you could shed any light on any of the points raised hear, Id be very grateful indeed.

Firstly, is it possible to significantly improve the picture quality on my Pioneer with a video processor? Would the dedicated external video processor basically take on all the functions of the current low(er) grade processor inside the Kuro TV?

Can I expect to see big improvements in broadcast television PQ (picture quality) if I use a dedicated video processor? After all, much as I despair, most of the TV being broadcast is still SD, so if I could get big improvements in SD television content, that would be an enormous incentive to buy one.

Also, if video processors can make a really big difference, does that mean that the "Kuro" range isn't necessarily the best, it just has the best 'on-board' video processing? As in, if you have a really good video processor, could you get stunning PQ from a much cheaper TV than a Kuro that wasn't using an external video processor? I imagine there's more to it than that, but I'd feel quite gutted if I could have bought a lesser TV than the Kuro, added a video processor, and ended up with better PQ, for less money.

An improvement in SD performance is what I'm most interested in, because Blu-Ray (even through my ps3) is already pretty stunning, but does a video processor increase the quality of HD viewing as well? That would be the icing on the cake.

Also, can I use a video processor with an AVR (all in one) solution? Or do I have to use it with a separates system - e.g. a separate audio processor and separate power amp?

How much sort of cash do people spend on these video processors, if they want a big boost in PQ?

Thanks for reading and any tips,

Hi Guys

With all the furore about the Oppo 83 and it's DVD upscaling capabilities I thought it seemed the natural choice to partner the HD750 I bought recently. I've been using a PS3 in the interim, but since much of my viewing is still from R2 DVDs, I thought I'd hook up my Crystalio 1/Philips 963 (SDI) combo to see how it fared. In short, very well indeed...although I have a slightly frustrating problem.

The '750 will accept 1080i60 and 1080p60 from the Crystalio (DVI > HDMI), but it just doesn't see any output resolution at 50Hz, irrespective of whether I try 576p50, 1080i50 or anything in between. The DVD picture at 1080p60 is really good and far beyond the PS3, but there is judder present on moving scenes, which I'm assuming is because I'm deriving a 60Hz signal rather than 50Hz from a PAL source.

The '750 will accept 576p50 from the PS3 via HDMI, or 576p50 from my other DVD players via component, but I just can't get a 50Hz signal from the Crystalio into the PJ.

Do I need custom timings? What am I missing? Help greatly appreciated!

Best regards

George

Hi all,
I am in the process of updating my system and wanted to check a few things before I go ahead and make some bad buys.

I have two displays: a Panasonic Plasma (with HDMI & component inputs) and a Marquee 9500 CRT.

I want to be able to output to both of them - preferably without having to do too much switching. Auto sensing would be good although I can reprogram my remote with new macros if need be. They do not need to be outputting at the same time.

I have just changed from a DVDO iScan HD+ to a iScan VP50 to enable me to output at HD resolutions to the CRT.

At present, I am using my Denon AVC-A1SR as a switcher / upscaler / everythinger as the CRT hasn't been completely integrated into the system yet. I would prefer all my video sources to go into the scaler and my audio sources stay in the Denon. The plan is to use a Vision FC4 and a HDMI splitter / switcher to get around the HDCP and output HD resolutions to my CRT.

So, I have attached a link to some diagrams of my existing and my proposed set-up with some questions. Hopefully, all makes sense but I will try to be as clear as possible:

1. I have 2 HD Sources (Sky HD and PS3). I would prefer not to buy 2 x Vision FC4's so if I had both the Sky and PS3 go into a HDMI switcher, and then a single HDMI cable then go to the Vision FC4, would this work? Are there alternatives to the vision (HD Fury etc)?

2. If the above would work, how does the switcher determine which one to output? For example, if both the PS3 and the Sky HD Box were on, which would get priority. I would assume that would depend on whether it was auto or manual switching? If the HDMI box was an auto switcher, can the auto function be over-ridden? Also, any recommendations?

3. If the sources are non-hdmi (ie. Wii, DVD, x-Box), and they are connected to the the VP50 Processor, will the video be upscaled to a higher resolution of the Plasma. I believe it supports 1080i and 720p. Will there be any need for a component cable or will a single HDMI lead be able to output to the plasma display anything that comes into the VP50 - regardless of whether it is s-video, component etc.

4. At the moment, my Sky HD goes via s-video to the Denon and then component to the Plasma. I know this sounds just plain wrong but the picture wasn't that bad when compared by the hdmi direct to the plasma. Unfortunately, the hdmi cables are channelled into the wall and one of them stopped working hence this workaround. The one working hdmi is used to connect the PS3. Nevertheless, will I notice much improvement in the picture quality of standard sky (or even Sky HD) via the scaler as opposed to what I am used to? Will the scaler affect the image of the HD or does it just pass it thru?

Anyway, as i said, I have drawn a diagram so can anyone see any problems with what I am trying to do? Of course, feel free to suggest other ways in making it better / simpler?

Thanks as always.

Problem:
Mac mini hooked via DVI-HDMI to Dennon AV amp... Amp hooked via HDMI to Sanyo projector.
When the mac boots with the equipment on, everything works fine. If the amp gets switehed off and back on (or to a different input) the mac can loose sight of the display and reverts to a default resolution. When you switch back to the mac input on the amp, it only SOMETIMES picks up the display again and switches resolution back.

I just want to trick the mac into pushing out 720p regardless of what's connected to the DVI port.

I think I need a Gefen DVI Detective to achieve this... any other recommendations from anyone? I would love to find a software solution, but can't see one anywhere. Switchresx only works with a display plugged in so won't help in this situation I think.

Thanks
Mike

YouTube - Pushkar Final Gold2 YouTube
This is the video.

It's running on Quicktime on a shuttle PC, on the PC monitor it looks smooth but when it goes through extension cable, vga amplifier and 2 way splitter and then ends up going through VGA to projector there is awful 'tearing' or vsync as I believe it's called. I'm assuming its not the media as it looks great on monitor, its just when its output via VGA to projector. I realise there is a lot of vertical motion in the media which may not help but convinced its not the media. HELP!!!

Any idea why this is happeneing? I've asked client to check vsync settings on graphics card but still not getting anywhere.

Restraunt is opening tomorrow night so getting quite desperate! I can get more info on setup if required.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm in a real panic now.

Thanks,
Basically, I'm wanting to run my old games consoles through a VGA monitor but it would be handy if it had HDMI output too. I suppose the ideal device would be something that converted any input format (RCA/SCART/Component maybe) to VGA and/or HDMI.
I've got about £100 to spend.

I can get around VGA easily enough with a converter for less than 50 quid.

However, I cant seem to convert a scart or composite cable to s-video. I've tried using scart adaptors with "s-video out" but its just a poor quality black & white picture. I know not all scarts are "fully wired" so I presume these scarts dont have the s-video pins wired (?)

Ideally, i'd like a multi-format swicth box with an s-video out but I cant find one. So alternatively, anyone know how I convert ANY scart and/or composite into s-video?

Thanks
Rob

ps, i hope this is the right forum for this question.

I have the cables deeply embedded in the wall and want to consider inserting a scaler between my equipment and my screen. Ideally without changing the cables (i.e. hacking up the plaster and getting it redone and redecorating).
Thanks

I just got home with a brand new Sam Fuller Collection and want to watch some movies but someone has been screwing around with my scaler!!

I fired up the pj, turned on the player and all I see on the film screen is "DVI Searching"... for 15 mins. now!!

I've tried turning off the HD Leeza (to no avail mind you) and restarted both projector and Pioneer player multiple times. It doesn't even seem to be the case of the Leeza being on the wrong input because ALL of the blue lights on the front panel are flashing.

I can't even seem to access the main menu though, which is driving me insane! At least then I'd be able to double check that my inputs and settings are correct and make adjustments.

What can I do to save my movie night??

Is there a way that I'm not thinking of to force the menu screen as it won't normally pop up while "searching"... what should I do?

I hit the power button on the front panel since the remote is not even responding while searching and nothing happens. I hold it down and the blue lights dissappear for the duration that my finger presses ont he button, but as soon as I let go, they start flashing again.

Please help me!!

What happened to my scaler and how can I fix this... preferably in the next 30 minutes so I can enjoy the rest of the evening!

Thanks!!!

Rather than shelling out for a new xbox I bought a Component to HDMI converter from HDCable.co.uk, which is advertised as FullHD 1080p.

I plugged it all in and I do get a picture, but I also get a strange ghosting (especially noticable with white text) on the picture, which goes away when I set the output to 1080i.

I've connected the Xbox with the official component cable so it isn't that, can anyone suggest anything else I could try or if it might be a problem with the converter box (http://www.hdcable.co.uk/component-h...nverter.html)?

Thanks for any help

It's kwown that a VGA card, for example the Nividia series from the 9500GT till the recent series have almost the full HQV score (for HD it's the full score of 130).

My questions are:

Has a VGA card more deïnterlacing options (pull-down variations etc?) than a standalone chip.

When for example a Faroudja DCDi, Silicon Optix 'Realta', or an Anchor NBay chip is upscaling from a 576P source to 1080P will there be a difference in end-quality and why? I know for example that Panasonic Blu-Ray player uses the P4HD technique that will calculate each pixel from 60 surround pixels.

How does a VGA card upscale. Also with a hardware chip or can it do softwarematically in a manner such as the P4HD technique.

Difficult questions, I know, but maybe someone can help me with this interesting (;)) questions.
