I'm very new to online gaming and want to play COD MW2 online with my friend in co-op mode, however it is really laggy and not really playable.

My broadband connection is only 2mb, I'm not sure if that is fast enough to play online? I don't know what speed their connection is.

Is there anything I can do to help prevent lag, my router is a netgear DG834GT, the PS3 is connected wirelessly, would connecting to the router using a cable be better?

When I contacted my router manufacturer, o2, they said it must be a problem with the ps3 as I have an xbox 360 which is fine online.

I have tried everything and I mean everything. Like:

Disabling media server connections.
Using lower graphics.
Trying a wired connection.
Forwarding ports.
Putting ps3 into DMZ.
Resetting the ps3.

My setup is:

Virgin 10 meg > Scientific Atlantica Modem > Ethernet >PS3

No other devices are connected. I've also changed my ethernet cable and removed the splitter from the virgin cable that ran to my tv box thingy so there's one run of cable straight into the modem.

The network status is nat1 on the PS3 showing direct connection to the net as it should be.

I tried a speedtest.net from my PS3 browser which gives me:

Ping 21 - 37

Download 2 - 9 meg (depending on time of day, evenings are obviously the worse)

The upload always fails from speedtest.net but I don't have a PC to try it from that so I don't know if this is a PS3 specific problem.

I have ran the internet connection test from the PS3 menu and it rated download as 2-8 meg and upload from 233-440 kbs.

Anyone got any ideas how I could improve my connection?

Also if someone could spare a couple of minutes to try a speedtest.net from their PS3 browser I'd really appreciate it just to see if the upload works for other people.

I have read several threads r.e. giving the PS3 a static I.p address and opening specific ports but I'm not sure if you can do that if you plug straight into a modem or even how to access the modem if it's possible.

I'm at the limit of my internet knowledge here so any advice would be welcomed.

p.s. Dunno if it's relevant but there are some sort of reducers both attached to the end of the virgin cable with 8bd and I think 60db (both inline). I have the 80gb "fat" ps3 with a wireless connection to a netgear DG834PN router. I am trying a system download but get this error. The IP address of my ps3 is in the DMZ whatever that is. I can connect to the internet via the ps3. Also, I have down loaded the new software version 3.07 onto a dongle and have tried to update that way, but the ps3 says there is no flash drive connected albeit the flash drive is in the usb slot in the front????????

I have had my PS3 for about 2 years. Every now and again it randomly won't connect to my wireless - but usually resolves. Yesterday - i turned it on, it usually connects straight up to my virgin media wireless - however, this time it wouldn't connect.

I then turned it off - tried again - it connected for about 2 minutes. I then turned it off again - and it just will not connect. I will search wireless and it will say it cannot find any.

I have done a full system restore - found my internet - but it will not connect again. No probs with the internet - works fine and laptop and was working fine on ps3 until it randomly decided not to.

The new call of duty is out tomo and i'll be gutted if i can't ply it online - can anyone recommend anything. I'm not overly technical on internet jargon etc. Thanks a LOT in advance! I just don’t understand how one minute it’s working fine and the next it’s not. I haven’t changed anything??

Up until PES 2010, I was extremely happy with a wireless connection. I've never had problems online with games such as Call Of Duty.

However, on PES 2010 I have suffered some annoying lag in some games and it's been doing my head in, hence me considering the switch to see if it makes any difference. I suppose I should also add that my signal strength when connecting wirelessly always says 100%.

As a result, I have a few questions.

When using a wired connection, does it matter how far from the router the console is?

When using a wireless connection, is the connection affected by other devices connecting to the network? Eg. If I was online on a console, would myself or the missus being on a laptop at the same time affect the connection? This never seemed to be the case when playing games like COD, I was just asking to be sure.

Is it possible to run a wired connection from a router to the console? Or is it better to run it direct from the modem?

everything was great could play that addictive cod 4 and sarpbc online, fine brilliant. Next thing my bro's ps3 gets YOLD (yellow light of death) so that needs fixing. today we disconnected everything and sent it off to the local techie guy to fix it. when i tried to get online this morning to play i noticed that the wireless light wasn't on and neither was i signed, because my bro and i are using the same netgear dgn2000 and he has the best signal i think that because he isn't online i cant log on and play.

Everything was fine yesterday when we both were playing online now though i cant connect even though the internet, dsl, wireless and computer connection is on and blinking at me.

so i thought id just reset my netgear turned it off and on until it worked did this 3 times and nothing still the same error message on my ps3 "the signal maybe low or the ssid maybe incorrect" :mad:

immediately i thought to reset the setting then try and enter the data again. but after that testing for connection came up with the same error message.:censored: now i read around this site and many others and they kept giving the same answer either:rtfm: or try reentering your info.

so anyone know what is wrong and how do i fix it.:lease:
also i noticed that my channel and bssid are missing from the info list but they were there last night.
