I've watched the hdmi video, but also read a post stating

Quote:

Well nearly right. It won't or shouldn't impact on the video signal being trasmitted if the cable is well built and designed. Whether thats a budget cable or not. But the important thing is that the more you want from your system, such as new BD players doing upsampling of 8 bit video etc, you need a cable that has the required bandwidth to meet the demand. So, what Jeff is ultimately saying is that look for a cat 2 certified cable at the very least, check its build quality and ultimately look to see if DPL have rated it. You should then have a better understanding of what to look for and avoid issues in the future with cables suddenly packing up or just not working at all.

I have a LG 42 PQ6000 linked to a LG DVX492 upscaling dvd player via hdmi. Now i don't know what variant of cable it is, 1.2, 1.3 etc, but it only cost me £4 for 2m (it has swivelled connectors on each end for ease of use :) ).
The reason i'm curious is despite good reviews of the tv AND the upscaling player, i'm not altogether convinced of the pq on dvd's like Van Helsing and Last Samurai (only 2 i've watched so far). They're perfectly watchable, but i'm not getting the upscaling wow factor i imagined. The player is set to 720p (my tv's, max res.) When i get fairly close to the tv, it seems a little grainy.

So could it be that i've got an older compliant cable and maybe need a newer 1.3 (?) standard to give me better upscaling results? I also bought a 2nd 1m cable for £1
I don't mind spending a little more or even making sure i get the correct 'standard', but today i saw a '3m blu-ray hdmi cable' for £69.00

Thanks for any help offered. :)

Hi Guys,
Just bought an Onkyo 607 which I hoped would let me watch Blu-rays on the ps3 through the vg socket using the HD fury gamer edition ( Plasma accepts 1080p 245fps through the VGA but not HDMI) Unfortunately the Onkyo does not produce enough power through the hdmi out port to power the HD fury gamer edition. So I was thinking is there a gizmo such as a powered HDMI which would produce enough power to run the HD fury? I want the full true dolby HD ect formats so I really need to be going through the amp hdmi out, unless I buy a blu ray player and connect direct to the VGA socket from it and get sound from using the speaker terminals. What phono cables would I need and what blu-ray player would you guys suggest (multi region would be great)
Has anyone had a problem with the 607 when watch programs from the planner on skyhd? The reason I ask is I find I have to turn the receivers power on and of due to TV loosing signal and sky pauses (never happened with the old amp); it may be a problem with the HDMI cable which I will check when the new one arrives but this only happens when viewing off the planner and wondered if this was due to poor power output from the HMD out port

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Trent

Sony TV - 1080p
Benq PE7700 projector : 720p/1080i max

There's some available in Maplin but there's nothing to indicate if it can deal with 2 displays which have different max resolutions.

I should mention that it's a case of either or display being in use at any one time i.e. if the projector is in use then the TV will be in standby (although I realise under these circumstances the TV will still be advertising it's edid data).

I've tried el cheapo hdmi Y type splitter from eBay, no chance of that working.

Any help is much appreciated as I've got all the parts just need to sort out the connectivity for my first projector

Cheers
So, is this all going to work, what would I need to make it work?

Hello everyone,

Am new to all this stuff and have spent some time looking through loads of threads and searching tinternet. But would really appreciate your valuable advice. Unfortunately I dont not understand a lot of the techy stuff so here goes.....

I am looking to buy my first HD setup and based on reviews etc wanted to get a Pioneer KRP-500A but I can't find one anywhere. So have opted for the PDP-LX5090 with an Oppo BDP-83.

I want to mount this on the wall and would really like only one cable going to the TV, but along with the Blu ray player I also want to connect a Sky HD box and possibly video recorder, prehistoric I know :-) and eventually a games console, not sure which one yet.

Am not looking for a HD amp yet so do I need to get a switch/splitter?

If so would the Pioneer PDAV100HD do the job? Have also seen references here to the DVDO HS4 but cannot find these for sale on the web, lots of places list them through google but when going to a specific web site am shown lots of other crap but no DVDO HS4 :suicide:.

Is there anything else available around the same price as the PDAV100HD that does the job better? Have read you guys talking about upscaling etc which I dont really understand but really just want the best picture quality possible from all the devices.

If possible, would this manage the audio output to my amp via optical.

Please help........

Cheers

So, after having had a lot of troubles with my previous HDMI extender from Neetcables, I bought a different one today (Marmitek). To my surprise, I immeditaly got picture when using the same CAT6 cabling that's inside my ceiling. So far so good.

Unfortunately, not all is good. When I use my Xbox360 and try to play a video (which always starts with a black screen), the Xbox360 shows a puple haze above all blacks. Video looks fine and clear, but the haze is there. When I return to the Xbox dash, everything is normal again?

Also, I noticed a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of stuttering when display 1080p/24 content, both through my Popcorn Hour and my Panasonic BluRay player. I'm using this with a new Optoma HD20 projector, so I'm not exactly sure if this 'problem' is due to the projector or the HDMI extenders. Are extenders know to introduce/augment 24p stuttering?

Anyway, I'm already kinda happy that I do get a picture, i's not perfect for now but will do for a while. Going to pick up a 10m long HDMI cable monday to check if I get the same problems with the cable (dropouts probably not, but the 24p stuttering can be checked with that to see if it's the projector or the extender right?).

Atlona Powerless HDMI Extender over Cat5/Cat6 up to 100ft*::*HDMI Extenders*::*Audio Video Extenders*::*HDWise.com :: HDMI, DVI, Component, Audio Video Cables, Switchers, Amplifiers, Converters, Line doublers, Splitters, Extenders, Boosters, Repeater

Or is there a better/different solution? Tried a HDMI extender (with 2xUTP>HDMI and back) but that does not work due to cables supposedly being too short.
