We have a sb in the living room conneceted to the avr. Since i updated to the latest firmware some weeks ago damn thing keeps showing the can't connect to server message every few hours. Its driving me mad especially as the display is sat under our plasma in plain view and comes on in the middle of a film sometimes. Am i going to have unplug it every time ive finished listening? My origional thinking was to have a squeezebox receiver, a cheap amp and 4 speakers (2 bookshelf for gym & 2 waterproof ceiling mounted for bathroom.)

This would work but I was wondering if there was a way that the amp could be switched on from standby when it received a signal from the squeezebox? If there were some external speaker sockets on the the squeezebox boom then that would have been a solution but I don't think there are.

Anyone got any better ideas? Please, someone tell me that I can connect it to the network and the squeezebox server (currently only running softsqueeze) without having to buy a controller I don't need! :lease:

I'm toying with getting a SONOS system but struggling to get to grips with certain things.

In the product description for the ZonePlayer90 it says "Just connect the ZP90 to any amplified audio device in any room and it’s instantly part of the wireless Sonos system"

I'm pretty useless at stuff like this - does the above mean I could connect the ZP90 to something like this for example - or does it need to go into a home cinema system/amp?

Two different things happen

1) Sonos won't play music on the nas and it says it can't find/connect to the drive. I have to either reboot the router and/or nas.

2) Napster won't establish a connection and I have to reboot the router. This happens very often.

My 'hub' sonos is hardwired to the nas and router, and the internet connection here is via a homeplug.

I do often switch my internet modem (that is connected to the sonos/router via homeplug) off when not in use, not sure if that makes a difference?

Its the napster connection problem requiring the router reboot that seems to happen very often.

Am looking to set up an external hard drive/backup for my two wireless laptops. I would like to store all my music and especially photographs/videos and documents as a backup on this and "stream" it to an output in another room.(BTW i need to get a decent set of speakers/hi-fi as well- need FM radio and mp3 playback on it)
I do have a wireless router but would want to buy all the other kit within £400-500 if possible.
Am also about to buy an HDTV (not part of this budget though)- does it need to be DNLA or whatever to talk to this setup or is that not important?
My understnding is i would need the following
1. an NAS/ external hard drive- any suggestions
2. something to stream music- like logitech squeezebox boom maybe
3. decent speakers/player
BTW i am in belfast so have relatively limited choice of music stores etc.

Always liked the look of the Squeezbox - the one that Logitech did.

I also like the iPod touch for the simple reason that, I use iTunes already and like the thought of having uncompressed music in my car and in my room when I can't be bothered with using my CD Player.

I know you can use the iPod touch as a remote control for iTunes on the PC, which would be great as it would then mean I have no need to have my TV on.

BUT - and here is the killer, the PC has quite a noisey graphics card in it, and with the hard drive etc I can hear it rumbling most of the time anyway.

I have a NAS drive and wonder if the Squeezebox devices can be used with these?
