and i have meny mkv files. downloaded. but they are either over 8,5 gb in the first place, ore around 8gb, and then they will also be to big after using the program to be burned out.

So, this is very wishful thinking but I was wondering if any of these players (Hisense, O!Play, Xtreamer etc) could run squeezeplay/softsqueeze to work as a squeezebox playback device?

I already have a NAS running squeezebox server, so I'm only thinking about playback.

I believe most of them run a version of linux and some are hackable (hisense & O!Play come to mind) so that's the only basis I have really!

I don't know if they'd have enough processing power/memory to run it, let alone how you'd get the software to acess the audio output (whether just plain phono stereo, SPDIF or even HDMI?!)?

I was thinking of using like a squeezebox receiver with iPod Touch + iPeng - ie no TV/monitor required.

I know you can get a sb receiver for about £80, so they are also fairly cheap but it's just for the convenience of having only one (more) box.

Anyone with a decent(ish) knowledge of linux and experience of hacking these have any idea?

Oh, I know I've posted in the streamers & network media players, not the streamers & music players - mainly because I thought you'd have more experience/knowledge about the hardware in these players?

Hi,

I have checked all the other posts and can't seem to find the answer to my problem.

I have an XP Laptop and an XP PC. The WDTV Live will sometimes see the laptop and the shares... other times it mysteriously disappears. The PC is a non starter, it won't even see it, let alone the shares.

I also have a hacked WDTV with usb ethernet that works fine so I know the PC and the Share must be fine.

I have checked and tried to eliminate everything, services, apps, firewalls, etc. I still can't make heads or tails of this. Really annoyed with this thing now.

Help, anyone, please!

Hi

I have searched extensivly and cant find anything to assist me.

I have just bought a western digital tv hd unit as it looked like a nifty gadget to accompany my HC and also a cool way to show off my films when settling down to watch something with mates.

I have backed up a american dad dvd from my collection but i have ended up with 6 BUP files, 9 IFO files and 13.VOB files from the one disk (season 1 disk 3)

Now this the western digital device appears to pick up the 13 .VOB files and shows in the menu that i have 13 videos. I only want it to show i have 1 video.

Can any one help me?

Also when playing backed up dvds like american dad which on a dvd player would let you chose the episode how to you back them up so this is possible

I am well lost with all this. so thanks for any help

Cancellation of Youtube in Media Players by Google?!
"On November 18, 2009 Syabas, makers of the award-winning Popcorn Hour product line, uploaded a message to their Media Service Portal that said, “As of Wednesday, December 2, 2009, YouTube will no longer be available to Popcorn Hour users.”

Please understand that this is neither a technical glitch nor a decision the company has voluntarily made. To be clear, Google has changed YouTube’s terms of service to exclude Set Top Boxes and other devices, and, as a result, Syabas has been asked to remove the content from their platform. We are working diligently with Google/YouTube to restore the service in the future.

What happened? Why has it been removed?

When Syabas first launched YouTube in 2008 on the Popcorn Hour platform, the company executed an agreement with YouTube that allowed it access to YouTube’s application programming interfaces (APIs). Using the company’s Media Service Portal, Syabas developed a unique application that brought YouTube content to the Popcorn Hour in a way that was easy to navigate using the device’s remote control. However, YouTube has always retained the right to change its terms of service in the future should it ever wish to do so. As a result of Google’s decision, Syabas is no longer allowed to access YouTube through its APIs. To be clear, Syabas is not being singled out. With the exception of a few strategic partners Google has chosen to work with, the company has informed Syabas they are asking all over-the-top device makers that are currently connecting to YouTube content through its APIs to take down the service.

I’ve written about this when we first heard rumors that this was coming in a previous post (http://digital.limberis.com/2009/06/now-...mer.html). Recently, when Syabas was contacted by YouTube regarding the use of their service, the company tried to negotiate with them to avoid disrupting the service. Unfortunately, Syabas was not successful in this effort. Are there other content services you would like to see us provide as an alternative to YouTube?"

Post from: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/an...nts.php?aid=34

What do you think? May WDTV, Xtreamer, AC.Ryan and others, lose that feature?

So YouTube wants brands to stop making their own interface and use the default YouTube interface in which they decide what content is shown? Not that I mind as i hardly use YouTube on the player, but if this is the case... then YouTube will stay on players and cause me some confusion...

We will follow the news and see what comes up...
Thx Hijack/Afrsa for the Info and hope its useful for people who need/want Youtube to continue or on there players..:)

Hi :hiya:. I know there are millions of topics on this but I couldn't find any answers to my specific question, so here goes.

I have a WDTV Live that is connected via an ethernet port to my SKY modem/router which i think is a Belkin? Anyway, I can access Youtube content etc just fine, but is this possible.........

If I connect up my 500gb WD Passport drive to the WDTV Live, which in turn is connected to my modem/router, am I then able to somehow share the contents of this drive over my home Wi-Fi network?

So if I connect to the home network via a standalone laptop, I can view all the files on the external drive connected to the WDTV (assuming it's switched on ofcourse).

If it is possible what have I got to enable on what to allow this type of sharing? a setting on the modem or the wdtv? or even the home network settings?

Thanks in advance :)

I am planning to buy Tvix 6500a as I've read all the positives here. One thing however I am not sure.
By going for Tvix 6500a I also plan it to use as TV recorder. It does have DVB T tuner so I suppose that I could be watching one channel on my plasma and resording other channel program - right ? Also would the recording be of a good quality ? How then after some days I could get back to the recorded program ? Would I be able to go to file with all my recordings and find it there and play it back ?
Thanks for answering my questions guys.
