As Sky BB (my current supplier) only offer up to 2MB to me, I am interested in changing to BT when it goes live.
Does anyone have a phone number I can call to find out more and register my interest ? I have looked on the BT site but seem to be going around in circles, getting nowhere slowly.

Also, once the fibre optic is up and running, would Sky be able to offer me improved speeds ?
Thanks.

I have just been told that I have good enough broadband to get BT vision in my house.

But before I go ahead and order it I have a few questions.

If I found out after a while that it really wasn't for me could the vision box be used as a stand alone PVR for me to record other channels like ones from my sky box which isn't sky+ as we can't get that in the flats I live in (or a second box for that matter).

Even if it were not connected to my internet could I watch what was already recorded to the box before it was disconected (this could also apply if interenet connection was to ever go down and I had previously recorded something and wanted to watch it)

Is the bt vision really any good? Does it have any benifits over sky in the way of extras. I know its basically a freeview box with a recorder (and I'm mainly getting it for the other room), but what else extra does it have, and what do people make of those extras?

Also lastly how is PQ compared to say your tvs built in freeview or skys pq. Plus whats the connectivity like (hope that made sense)I mean do people ever get loss of image due to poor internet connection.

I can only get BT where I live so want to get the most out of it possible, and was thinking of buying BTV this week

I know there are lots out there that don't like it, or have stored the vision box's in there lofts, but would love to also here from people who have had good experiences with it..

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi

In an attempt to try and limit the costs of phone calls and mobile calls (and everything else!) i'm looking into the possiblity of utilising the BT Hub Phone feature.

What do i need, and what does it acutally give me, and at what cost? I chose the basic BT Broadband package, so i currently have a BT Homehub 2 (in black), but i went for the option without a handset.

I'm assuming here that the number of the line is the one on my bill - 05602 ******?

Like to know if it will cost anything, if i can recieve and make calls, to what number types can i call (local, international, mobiles).

Also, do i need anything enabling locally, or added to my package by BT. Finally, if i'm buying a seperate handset does it need to be a BT Hub Phone 2.1, or can i use older phones (and are there any significant differences)? Oh, and i also read somewhere that i could somehow use the service with DECT phones (but i don't see how).

Phew - lots of questions! Cheers in advance.

:)

We've just an extension, but the phone socket didn't move (it's near the front of the house, and the work was done at the back). Setup is all but exactly as it was before (just shorter distance to the socket from the hub now) but can only get 450kbps down, although up is OK at about 350kbps. The whole kit has been switchen off for several weeks. Could it be the line needs to "settle" again as is suggested when you switch ISPs? Or should I be back to my old speed to moment I plug in. I usually see a drop in speed at evenings and weekends, but nothing like this!

Thanks a lot

Hi

I've had a bill in the post today for an extra £9 for "Line one-off charges".

Obviously i phoned spoke to customer services and in turn the Fair Usage Team.

They informed me that as i'd exceeded my dl limit of 10gb for the previous 3 months (my entire time with BT Broadband incidentally) that they were now billing me monthly by £1 per 1gb that i use over my 10gb limit.

Now the problem here is that i have no idea whatsoever how the hell i'm using the volumes of data usage that they're saying i'm using. I'm not Torrenting, not particularly streaming (don't watch iPlayer and the others, just the very occassional YouTube video), don't stream music, purchase off iTunes or anything else significantly data hungry.

I have 3 PCs, one of which doesn't get turned on more than 1 hour a month. 1 laptop that used for light surfing most evenings. 1 Media PC with Windows 7 (which has done updates but only when i installed it last week which doesn't account for me going over in the previous months).

The only other device that's connected is my Xbox 360, which i'm on most evenings. Even then i don't tend to download demo games, and play online some of the time. My assumption has always been that online gaming wasn't using much of my download limit.

As i've hit a brick wall with BT i've reset my HomeHub passwords just to be on the safe side, in case someone else is using my BB. The thing is, in my first 3 months they tell me that i've used 17gb, 14gb and 20gb. That's a hell of a lot of surfing and gaming.

Anyone had a similar experince, or can offer me any support as to if i can escalate this with BT? Obviously i have no idea how i can argue that i'm not using what they're stating i am.

:lease:

hi i bought 8 meg unlimited downloads earlier this year mainly for xbox live. However, i don't ever get a good connection and lag often. My friend has talk talk 8 meg which he got at exactly the same time i got mine and he always has a better connection than me yet talk talk lines are provided by aol which i always hear are the worst! i get download speeds of about 6000 kbps and upload about 400kbps. My latency i checked today is 136ms although my connection is 10x slower today (possibly the really bad weather we're having). Is is possible to improve the latency? Perhaps by buying a different router other than the home hub 2. I really hope someone here can help me cause i've been putting up with mediocre performance and just want to enjoy my speeds and my xbox live subscription.
Thanks for anyone who tries to help

Thought I would ask here first rather than go through BTs legendary helpline.
I've had BT now coming up for a year, mainly because no one else can offer me a service due to the distance from the exchange that I am.
I have had no real iseeues either surfing the net or using the hub to allow me to xbox online.
Picked up Forza 3 a few days ago which means I am back online again fairly regularly. The last couple of nights, I have been having regular interuptions in service. What happens is there is an audible click from the hub, then all the lights go out except the power light. The broadband light flashes orange, then goes red, then gradually all the lights turn blue and service is resumed. Anyone else experienced this? Is it a faulty hub, some sort of xbox problem where its tripping out the hub or just a disruption in service that we have to live with from time to time. Anyone any ideas?

Cheers all
