This is my story, orange has only ever been out provider, been with them for nearly 4 years, they were "baddish", but it really went terrible a couple of months back, we were getting around 2.9 megs, which is OK because its what my line can handle since living in a village but then it went down to 500kps, it took them weeks to get it up to 1.8 which is half of what it was! they said oh, your line can only get max 2 megs now. rubbish, had enough, got my MAC and went on o2 LLU up to 8 meg. love it, i get 3.9 megs now which is really good for my area, fastest iv'e ever had here.
If you ever start getting bad speeds with orange, leave. It's not worth it. And they don't admit its their fault. Should of done it ages ago

Hey all,

Was after anyone with a little experience in having the internet in high rise flats?
I'm currently with Virgin paying a premium price yet am unable to even match the speeds of their lowest package. I pay for 50 but receive 9 lol.

Anyway, the reason I went with Virgin as it is easier to have all in one and Fibre optics etc, which I thought would be better for me as I live in a 12th floor flat.

Anyway I'm blabbering on now. Basically it will work out cheaper for me to have ADSL. I will have to pay for a new BT line which is fine but because of the distance from exchange and the floor im on, will it greatly affect my speeds? I don't even have a line currently fitted to test line attenuation etc.

I have emailed BT both these questions but I'm not holding out for a decent response from them.

Thanks guys and advice and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have used plusnet for a number of years without issue, however over the last few months i have seen huge latency spikes during peak hours. I can only assume they are priorities non-gaming traffic.

I am not on their top package, but reluctant to switch to it because they won't let me do so without agreeing to a new 12month contract. I obviously don't want to do that unless i know it will solve the problem.

I have skyhd and so sky's package sounds tempting but i have heard bad things about it.

Which ISP would you recommend for gaming? I don't need high download limits, i just need a stable connection with low latency.

hi guys,
i am looking to change my isp within a few days. I have dont a lot of research and finally decided to to for BE broadband.
Now here is the question(s)
(1) I have three other people living with me and they all use internet on regurlar basis, particular during the evening time (youtube, VOIP chatting downloading) and this is when i do my online gaming and downloading. I want to know if anyone from their experience has got any problem with BE like slowdowns etc. ?
(2) will it be advisable under my current circumstances to go for the BE pro package to get dat extra upload speed as i will be sharing it with other people or will 1meg of upload speed with BE Umlimited will be more then enough ? i wont be doing any uploading like running a FTP server or webmailing stuff...
(3) Should i go with LLU option or just the normal ADSL2+ will be enough for now ?
(4) Also O2 are giving away a newer version of thompson router with their PRO package , will it make any difference in speed as most of us use wireless connection ?

thanks you all for looking and commenting :)

Have been looking around and after speaking to neighbours who all seem to be using the post office are very pleased with their service.
I'm looking at their unlimited 8mb service with line rental and inclusive calls for £25 and was just about to apply online when I thought I'd ask on here as one thing my neighbours can't comment on is the service they provide with online gaming. I can't see there to be any reason to be concerned but thought I'd ask first as I could not live with out my online Call Of Duty :god:

Thanks
