I have a Humax PVR which works fine on Freeview. My TV is a Tosh CRT which is great but not HD ready.

I am looking to replace the PVR so that I can give it to my daughter.

Should I go for Freesat (probably Foxsat) as a replacement for future proofing, or buy a new PVR for freeview?

Bought a Freesat HD box (Bush BFSAT01HD) from a forum member, and just installed it, ran a new installation on it, entered post code etc, it scanned, found 162 services, and then populated the EPG.

However, on virtually every channel, when trying to view, it flashes up the channel name with the now & next on the screen, then that blanks and it just shows the channel name with "New service...Please wait" and the screen is blank with no audio.

However, the following channels do work;

BBC HD - perfectly
ITV3 (and +1) - perfectly
Talksport radio

Then nothing else works uptill;

953 BBC 1 East (E) - break up
954 BBC 1 East (W) - fine
955 BBC 1 North - break up
956 BBC 1 NE & C - little break up
958 BBC 1 Oxford - bad break up
959 BBC 1 South east - bad break up
961 BBC 1 South - just about
962 BBC 1 S West - fine
963 BBC 1 West Mids - bad break up

Any idea's? Is it likely to be dish alignment? On the channels that don't show anything (for example : 101, BBC 1 London) the signal strength and quality is nothing, on BBC-HD the signal strength and quality is over 50%, probably close to 60%?

Hey,

I have just had a dish installed and had my humax HDR box wired in. I'd like to explain my set up first:
I have a sony bravia television with Bose 3.2.1 system and now freesat to replace my sky box.
I have connected the HDR box to the TV with the HDMI lead and have the red and white phono leads running from the HDR to the Bose system.
I get a great picture however sound only plays through the television speakers not the bose system.

To test my connections i placed the HDMI lead from the HDR box to my PS3 and the bose speakers worked fine. plugged back into the HDR and no sound from Bose speakers.

I then tried an optical cable running directly from the back of the HDR box to the bose system and still no sound! Again tried with PS3 and worked fine.

I have tried ringing Humax but they are about as useful as a chocolate teapot and just recommended a factory setting fix. Obviously to no avail.

To sum it all up:
1. i have a picture and can watch all the channels and play sound through the TV speakers.
2.i have a picture and can watch all the channels but cannot play sound through external speakers.

I have fiddled with all the settings i could find but i just can't figure out what is going wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

All of which say that they can record to external hard drives. I have the latest updates from their website on my machines but cannot get them to record with Seagate 1TB external hard drives. The FS4400 just keeps turning on and off continually and the Innovations give a response "Device not ready or not FAT32". They will let me format them though.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem?
Also, my next idea would be to use pci cafrd much like the Hauppauge Freeview card and record to my p.c.'s hard drive like I once did with Freeview. Is there a card out there for Satellite?
Thanks for reading!

I live in Leeds, West Yorks and I am trying to find someone to supply and fit me a motorised dish. Now you would think that that would be a breeze and everything given todays climate etc... But you'd be wrong!!!! I must have rang every satelite installer in the yellow pages trying to find someone who could install a motorised system for me, but it seems no one will touch it with a barge pole!!

I have been out and bought a USB DiseqC receiver for my media pc, I now just need someone to supply and fit the rest. Or at least fit as I can buy a motorised kit myself. So if anyone on here knows anyone who does installations in and around leeds I'd be grateful for their details!!

Cheers

It would be appreciated to hear comments as to which is best to help me decide which to go for.

Apart from the fact that the Panny also has a recordable dvd and hence potentially more versatile which has the best overall performance and functions?

I understand that the Panny will only allow you to record two channels and you will have to watch one of thoses being recorded, but the Humax will allow two recordings and will allow you to watch another third channel?

Comments on either the Humax and Panny would be appreciated.

I am considering buying the Humax Foxsat HDR pvr.

Initally for SD use.

However, I have read that Freesat SD is broadcast in a lower resolution of 544x576, as opposed to the 704x576 of Freeview?

Is this true?

If so what is the impact on SD pictures?

My Foxsat HDR (Software v 1.00.11, loader v U 7.52) will not recognise any USB pen drives or hard drives. I've tried several, formatted to Fat 32, in both front and rear ports with no luck. Might my unit be faulty? I'm desperate to archive off some recordings and free up some space as I am on 95% fill!

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I have just bought an Foxsat HDR and the LCD backlight behaviour is befuddling me ...
Despite numerous searches, I cannot find observations of the the "normal" LCD backlight behaviour ...

So, is is how it normally operates ?

With power saving ON in the options:

1. LCD Backlight is on all the time when the unit is powered up
2. When in standby, with no timers set, the LCD backlight is off
3. When in standby, with timers set, the LCD backlight is on

With Power saving off, the backlight is on permanently, regardless of standby or operating state ?

Also, I assume that I haven't missed any config. options to be able to dim it ?

TIA

The DTG website is listing; Panasonic DCLA FREESAT RECORDER BS850/750 XS 350 software update from 18-11-2009 to 07-12-2009
Anyone know what this contains?
A post elsewhere suggested Panasonic may be about to enable diseqc switching on its freesat tvs and perhaps by extension of the same logic on its freesat+ recorders.
Has anyone been able to verify this?

If so it would be good news to have a manufacturer that can produce a diseqc enabled recorder which might actually also be capable of performing a manually set timer recording of non-freesat / other sat programmes which the Humax cannot.
The only other hope is that Technisat will extend the HDFS single-receivers recording functionality to a new twin tuner model with freesat epg.
None of the other freesat+ products from Harvard (goodmans/grundig) or Sagem have diseqc available.
