Hello,

I just got a PS3 this week and have it all set up my home network including PS3 Media Server. One question, should I be able to see the HD on the PS3 on the network so I can copy media files etc. onto it? Does the PS3 allow this?

I currently have a laptop with quite a lot of music, pictures and films on it. Currently if I want to play or display any of this on my TV at home I use PS Media Sever to stream the content over my network and I havn't had any problems with this at all. Everything works fine and I'm very pleased with it.

I've also just purchased a PSP-3000 and have set up the remote play function which again seems to work well. However obviously all of my media is stored on my laptop rather than PS3. Therefore is it possible to stream the content from laptop to PS3 using PSMS and them use remote play via the PSP to access this on the PSP?

As well as a PS3 and PSP I also have a iPod, and was wondering how people best organise their media so that it can easily be accessed by all devices (for example if films etc are stored on the PS3 then it'd be messy if you wanted to add stuff to an iPod). I was thinking of getting a 250 or 320GB portable external HDD and sticking everything on that so that I could then swap it between the laptop (if I wanted to use files with iTunes or trnasfer files to PSP etc) and the PS3 if I wanted to view things on TV or via remote play. What does everyone else do?

I have a WDTV media player for MKV duties but then I started to think how nice it would be if the PS3 could do it instead.

From my understanding I can use MKV to Vob?

What are the limitations / problems I will encounter?

I believe I have to use a FAT32 system so 4gb max file size. Alot of my MKV`s are 720p and bigger than 4gb so how do I resolve this?

Is DTS a problem for VOBs as alot of my MKV`s are with DTS sound?

Or am I better off simply sticking with the WDTV? I just like less boxes rather than more under the tv!

Thanks

I've got no problem writing it myself, I just wondered if either Sony publish the API or if anyone had reverse engineered one.

Hi,

I have an odd problem here.

I have used Windows Media Player in Vista (and now Windows 7 Home Premium) with no problems to stream my Video content from the PC to the Playstation wirelessly.

I setup the shares in Windows Media Player, and then the PS3 sees the folders.

BUT, for some reason with Photographs I can't get the same thing to work AT ALL. The default shared images and locations are fine, but adding other folders which have loads of .jpg images and I cannot see the shared directories at all even though WMP says they are shared, and they are in the media library.

I am not doing anything different with Videos than I am with Pictures, Videos work, Pictures, I get the default shares and even though I have added other directories they do not appear.

Any clues? I dont think its anything to do with the images, because the paths don't even appear on the PS3 and if I have no Videos in a directory the PS3 will still see the folder, but with pics, no folders but the default share.

Odd..

Edit: Ignore me, the PS3 once rebooted sees everything but I never have to do that with Video.. Bizaaaaaare.

Cheers,
