Hi
new guy here needing your help. I seem to have the age old problem of my HD-EP10 not playing DVDs. I was watching a film and it just froze. After i while i got the message "The disc is not DVD format. Cannot play disc." Now it won't play any DVDs but it will play CDs and HD HVDs. Having looked round this forum i notice a lot of people talking about making the player region free. Can anyone tell me if this is a cure for my problem and if so, can you tell me how i go about fixing it. Just for information, when i initialise the player and check the update, it tells me i have 4.0/T23M. I take it thats my current firmware version. Any help will be very gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance, guys.
Neill

I'm guessing some sellers just list a title as rare because it's on HD DVD?

I have an E1 where I need to change the HD DVD drive. So if anyone has a player with the WELCOME bug, we can join in buying a new player on ebay. I get the HD DVD drive of your faulty player, and you get the working HD DVD player from ebay.

It's a win win situation. :)

.. or I can just buy the HD DVD drive from your faulty player for a reasonable price.

Hi all, I've just picked up my first HD-DVD player today (well two actually!)

I've now got one Toshiba HD E1 which I've just finished upgrading for the region unlock, and one of the HD DVD drives for the Xbox360.

So far I've not really noticed much difference between 1080i on the E1 and 1080p on the 360 but saying that I need to sit and do some tests tonight. The main reason was that the test disk I used, Transformers, causes havoc with the 360 which from what I've read is a known fault.

I just wondered does the picture get much better by upgrading to something like the EP30 / EP35 so that I can get 1080/24p?

I've seen a few posts saying it's possible to use a hacked EP10 firmware on the E1 to get 1080p so I'm just going to look down that route now to see if it's viable :)

As for the E1 I'm really impressed, I bought a Samsung HDTV at the weekend - just picked up an LE40B550 hoping I could hack it for the MKVs but no such luck - and that came with an upsampling Samsung HDTV player - the HD1080 - but from what I've seen of that it's no comparison to the Toshiba unit for playing SDTV DVDs!
