I have done the multi-region dvd hack but my question relates to blu-rays

Recently been on holiday to mexico and bought a few cheap blurays, but obviously these won't play on the player in it's current state, is it possible to hack the firmware to be able to play multi-region blurays, or even modify hardware

I just think that £550 is a bit steep, especially if the bass management on the Oppo isn't 'perfect' (fixed crossovers), when players like the Denon 3800 give you as much control as an AV receiver.

So, next best as a potential would be players which do source direct and a re-encode of HD formats to max bit rate DTS. I know there are a few Samsungs which do this, but I don't think any of those do source direct. Any other candidates? My budget is around £350.

The problem is that searching for it on Amazon brings back a bewildering amount of apparant variants of this model. I'm not sure what the difference is between these variants; if indeed there is any. What I have seen is this:

• BD60EB
• BD60EB-K
• BD60EG-K
• BD60EG-S
• BD60EF-K

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

apologies if this has been done, a search didn't reveal much though.

Ok, i want a blu-ray player that can be network connected, DNLA certified and will play .mkv, divxHD and other formats.

So it seems that the PS3 and the new LG BD390 will do what i want. I'm quite a fan of LG (got 42 PQ6000 and DVD upscaling player).
I've heard the PS3 will be better for multi-media purposes as i can use PS3server on my WHS to help it encode and play formats that it doesn't natively support.
However is the new slimline quite noisy compared to a standalone player?

Its approx £50-80 more expensive than a BD390, but it can do more. I'm not really buying it for gaming, but i do have 3 kids who wouldn't mind taking advantage of that, despite their gaming pc's and xbox360.

So, PS3 or BD390.....?

I've had my BDP-S350 for well over a year now and upto now have had no problems, today I bought the new Star Krek bluray and keep getting an "unknown disc" error. After a bit of searching I believe the prolblem maybe the bd live feature, so I've updated the firmare via the player to version 20 and have also plugged in an 8gb Kingston Data Traveler into the rear... just in case but still I get the error.

I've also disabled the - allow web content option on the player.

Any ideas please?
