M3A78-T motherboard
2 x 2gb sticks of corsair ram 800 Mhz
650W coolmaster psu + coolmaster rc-330 elite case(as u can see i didnt have much money left to spend on the case last time
1TB HDD SATA2
Sony DRU-V200S-B : dual layer-SATA
1GB ATI HD 4870
thermalright ultra 120 extreme

i want to keep my heat sink graphic's card and HDD

and go to a core i7 920 set up because iv been told with the "thermalright ultra 120 extreme with 2 fans attached you can reach 3.8ghz easy" so i was wondering if people have any input on motherboards, psu and ram iv already got in my mind the obsidian case by corsair , or if you know of a better case please input :)

and also would that system without what i said in sell for at least £500 iff i add a 500 gig HDD or something into it as the motherboard has an onboard HD3300 chip i think and its prity powerful it outputs 1080p.

Afternoon everyone,

As you can see from the title, i'm having real problems getting my computer to boot up at all.
I decided to upgrade the pc, and bought a new mobo and ram.
Here are the current specs:

PSU – Corsair 550W VX
MOBO – Asus M3N78-VM
RAM – Kingston 4gb (2x2gb) 800mhz

GRAPHICS CARD – MSI 8800gt 512 ddr3
BLURAY – LG GGW-H20L Bluray/HD DVD

I got everything in fine, having made sure to ground everything and have no static around.
Turned the computer on and it lasted for about 30 sec with everything powering up before switching off and rebooting itself straight away.

I then stripped the mobo back to nothing on there at all, and checked that it was holding fine which it did, so i started adding bits. Put both sticks of ram in and it was fine, added the graphics card, again, was fine.
Put the cpu and the heatsink/fan combo back on and it seemed to hold fine, but still didn't boot to the Bios. Now i was getting really confused! But, i realised that i hadn't plugged the power to the cpu on the mobo, just had the cpu fan connected. As soon as i powered up again, it died after 30 sec without booting bios.

Sorry, for the long explanation, i've pretty much run out of ideas on this one.
Did read on the net somewhere that somebody reset their Cmos on another mobo and it fixed a similer problem to mine, but i think that they had booted fine, just couldn't get in to edit the bios.

Any ideas would be ober helpful cause i'm starting think i'll take it the techguys over at pcworld:eek:

It then freezes on this screen and doesn't not respond to anything pressed on the mouse or keyboard.

I have had my acer for several years and have always had this problem but it is usually solved by turning the computer on and off, it has been slowly getting worse and haven't been able to switch it on for several weeks.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Question: Is it possible to loop the s/pdif output from the rear i/o to the 9400gt input? I'm happy to lash a cable up if needs be.
Picture of rear panel i/o showing s/pdif in centre:

I am currently looking to purchase a new PC and would appreciate your advice to spec it. I plan to buy a reasonably high end machine, budget £2000 or so ( no display ).... I am not a huge gamer but would like to be able to play all the latest games..my main objective is to "future proof" it as much as possible. I will buy a built PC rather than build my own ...Can you help with spec and recommend where to purchase ?

Main considerations I have so far...

CPU - I am set on an i7 socket 1366...I think 1366 will give me a good upgrade path to i9 ... is this true ?....also do I buy a top end CPU ( i7 975 EE ) and pay the premium or "settle" on a lower spec processor ( if so which ....920 / 920 overclocked / 960 ? )

Mobo - I need a good mobo to support the i7, Asus P6T2 Delux SE seems to get good reviews ..is this my best bet for the future ?

Graphics - Looking at Radeon DX11 card, this should keep me going for a year or two ! ...Should I invest in HD5870 or HD5850 ? also I hear 2x cards are imminent ( 5890 )

I'd also appreciate your advice on best drives to go for ..I am thinking a 64Gb SSD "boot and applications" drive and a good 1Tb or so data drive.

Blueray, I'd like a Blueray drive ( to play content , not write )

Sound - important so I don't want to rely on onboard sound and would prefer a good soundcard

Can you also advise on memory ...I am thinking 6Gb / 8 Gb of DDR3 memory ?

I know nothing about Power Supplies so would appreciate your advice on power considerations.

OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

As I say, I won't build myself so can you help source a PC that meets / exceeds my spec ...Mesh, PC Specialist, Alienware , Overclockers etc ?

Thanks for any help.

Morning,

am running pc directly to sammy 46"tv via hdmi, also using keysonic ACK-540RF wireless keyboard, Radeon 4350HD, windows 7 home premium.

All has been fine until at the weekend when I was having a play in the bios to adjust the AMD cool n quiet.

When I rebooted, 2 issues have now occurred, I have an approx 1" black border all the way around my screen, I have read (googled) that there is an stretch option within CCC, but I cannot find it....

Also the keyboard will now not work, have tried new batteries, not helped.

The keyboard is working fine according to control panel, it will work for literally 2 seconds, then does nothing, hence why I changed the batteries.

Any ideas??

I know when a post starts with "I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this" it's usually in the wrong place, but I can't think of a better place to put this one.

My place of work has had enough of people abusing the internet during work hours and has "switched it off" so as I work 12 hours most days, i'm starting to go cold turkey due to not being able to keep up to date with my gadget dreaming fix or even (god forbid) not being able to check the AVF

So I am in need of a way of accessing the interweb from anywhere and as I see it I have a few choices:

1, Get an iPhone
2, Get a netbook with a 3G dongle
3, Wait and see if the fabled Apple tablet is ever released

So really I am after some advice of what to do, I really liked the idea of the Sony E-reader with the internet connection but from what I hear it's US only as nobody in the UK will support it, I like the functionality of the iPhone but (don't hate me iPhone users) it's a bit poncey and £45 a month for 2 years is quite pricey. The Apple tablet sounds exactly what i'm after but is it even real ?

Or have I overlooked a gadget that suits my needs ? Any help would be much appreciated.

Ethan.
