Hi

I got myself this new box which worked perfectly for a couple of weeks. Then the sound and picture started juddering (like when a sat signal is obstructed or sat aerial out of alignment) making it unwatchable.

I think this was just before the last switchover date as we did a retune after that and it made no difference.

TopUpTV blame Winter Hill.

Since then I've defaulted the box, done multiple retunes, formatted the hard drive from the service menu, checked all the cables etc etc.

Googling leads me to believe that it might indeed be the Winter Hill transmitter and that it might be resolved after Dec 2nd?

If I plug the aerial back in the TV then the picture is perfect and the aerial was bought specifically for Freeview and as I say it worked perfectly for a couple of weeks with TopTV/ ESPN etc.

In South Cheshire. Can't find a way to manually retune the Thomson box to the different MUX settings shown in other threads if that might help?

Any ideas/ guidance/ suggestions as to what might be wrong or what I might do as a temporary fix very gratefully received.

Thanks in advance
BP

Hi! I live in Spain and have not yet learned spanish so am a little cut-off here when it comes to getting advice in this space. I am about to buy a whole new system... TV, AV Receiver, Blu-Ray, Satellite HD from Canal+ but am stumped on the last piece - the HDD to store my music, DIVx, Photos and to record TV programs on. In Spain there is freeview TV that is called "TDT" here and it needs a decoder box. Is there a good device that decodes and can record too? i need it to be able to connect to a PC so i can put all my music and photos etc on it (preferably wirelessly) and also to move stuff on and of it as i need to. Any advice? for wiring reasons i cannot use the TDT decoder that will be in the new TV i buy...not enough room in the tubes for all the cables...the TV is 5M away on the wall

Ive got no idea why this is, Ive watched BBC1 on freeview in the past when recordings clashed but never had any problems. Admittedly Ive not tried it since the switchover started. I live in Wigan and use the Winter Hill transmitter, is this something to do with the switchover.

I wonder if anyone can help me? I don't know if anyone here uses the Wolfbane predictor site, but it gives an idea of the signal strength in dBµV/m. I'm having some difficulty understanding the dBµV/m values. What I'm trying to find out is how to convert from such a value to the signal levels generated by any given aerial that I can expect to see in the coax cable that I connect to a meter or a TV. I realise that this of course varies according to the gain of the aerial but I also understand that it's not just a case of adding the gain (in dB) of the aerial to the field strength in dBµV/m. The distance learning course I have completed seems to imply that it does, but I have reason to believe it is wrong.

I have today spent all day playing what I hoped might be the correct equation:

20 log10( 7.94 / (wavelength * square_root ( aerial_gain ) )

but I just cannot seem to get sensible values out of it.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has an answer to this, as I cannot seem to find any information on this anywhere!

Hi
I have a Philips DTR 1500/05. I am using it with an indoor aerial and am having some problems....
Through my indoor aerial I can get each of the 5 terrestrial/analogue channels fine but through the box only BBC1 and BBC2...not 3 4 or 5.

As far as the digital channels are concerned, I don't expect to get a full complement with an indoor aerial but I used to get about 50 percent of them...and that was with a really cheap unbranded set top box...which I was quite happy with until the remote packed up (no it was not the batteries).

Now I've got this Philips one which is supposed to be superior and when I first plugged it in could get E4 More 4, and various others. Then everything went ..nothing except radio was detected and so I ran the First Installation wizard through it and now all I can get is
BBC1, BBC2, CBBC< Cbeebies, BBCNews and BBCParlaiment.

I don't want the world...just a few channels - certainly the same ones I used to be able to get.

My nearest tx is Sutton Coldfield. I am in Birmingham.

Any ideas much appreciated.
