Firstly, hello all, glad to be here

I have been browsing these forums for many years and never registered or posted, mainly because I always found everything I needed. Great forum thanks

However I am in the process of renovating my flat and want to include POSSIBLE SKY+ / FREEVIEW / BT cables under the floor in all bedrooms and lounge. If you can bear with me I will detail my problem and perhaps you can help (hope I have the right forum!). It’s driving me nuts as I am getting really confused

Ok so ...

Set up.

2nd story flat in block of 4, 4 bedrooms and 1 lounge

Freeview aerial and sky dish on roof, I LNB (I think).

Currently I have standard SKY installed in the lounge

BT master socket in Hall, connected to another master socket (not sure!) in lounge .

The cabling from both the freevew and SAT dish come down the external wall and into the lounge

Signal strength for Freeview, good (london)

What I desire
(As I am putting hardwood floors down I want to put possible cabling underneath first)

All 4 bedrooms and lounge to have the possibility of having SKY+ and FREEVIEW and a phone line. All these are independent from one another, so 5 separate phone numbers, 5 separate sky+ installations. I admit the chances of this happening are slim but I don’t know who will want what services and what room they are in.

My installation plan

Freeview:
The cable from Freeview Aeriel to lounge already installed by me
Install a 4 WAY UHF/VHF splitter. Run 4 separate, WF100 cables to all 4 bedrooms. Therefore lounge has no Freeview access but 1 output cable can be changed over if need be. If signal strength is power, change splitter to powered one (no signal loss)

SKY+ / SKY / SKY HD:
Run 4 shotgun cables (or better still 8 WF100) from Lounge to 4 bedrooms. I would have to change the LNB and run extra cables down the external wall if someone actually wanted the SKY or SKY+ in their bedroom. That can be done anytime

Additional BT phone lines
Install 4 extra BT master sockets in hall so the can be connect by BT engineer at ant time. 1 there already so 5 in total
Run 5 extra phone cables from the 5 sockets in Hall to 5 new extension sockets (4 bedroom, 1 lounge). Use cable 2 pair 4 core

Outlet plates
This is confusing.
So in a bedroom I would have 3 sat cables and 1 phone cable. I would like to join these all to the one double socket. Would I just get a double face plate and box and connect each wire its corresponding module (i.e. 1 phone, 2, F plugs and 1 coaxial). I could of course join each to an individual socket.

Questions

Is this plan ok? All thoughts welcome

Rather than getting modular sockets that slot in, can I get all this in one socket

Where would a Screened Socket Quadruplexed suffice? I see that they only take 2 sat cables.

I see SKY require a connection to a working phone line. Now if I connected a SKY box to the inactive phone connection, can I just connect the inactive master socket to active master socket, in the hall?

I have been looking at Labgear HDU641/S Home Distribution Unit 4-Way but don’t understand where this fits in?

I mentioned 2 pair, 4 core phone cable; I have no clue if this is right

Thanks all very much for reading my long post!

Whatever your opinions on Sky equipment cover, this is not what the thread's about, but I've just done a DIY upgrade from standard Sky, to Sky+ and now find myself with a dilema regarding my equipment cover.

In that my cover was set-up for my standard system, I'm now wondering whether or not to contact them and ask if I'm still covered, and what I need to do if not. The other alternative is to say nothing, because in my experience communication between the people you report the fault to on the telephone and the engineer that comes out is non-existent - why else would the engineer's first question when he gets to your house be, "So, what's the problem?" regardless of how much detail you went into on the telephone when you reported it?

Do you think it's worth risking keeping quiet, and hoping that in the event of having to call someone out, they'll just diagnose the problem and replace like for like (if a replacement is needed, of course)?

Was recording itv last night (carpenters tribute - for my girlfriend i hasten to add). it seemed to record ok, however when i checked later in planner it said "part rec - technical fault 11"

I haven't had chance to watch it to see what happened, and it appears to have recorded the full duration (63 mins for a programme scheduled for 60 mins).
Any idea what fault 11 is ?

I did record a couple of other progs last night to test and they were fine.
Just curious, and wondered if anyone else experienced.
Thanking you in advance.

Problem with Sky+ box how to backup programs that are stored on it

I purchased a Sky+ box at the begining of November.

Everytime I go to switch the box on by either pressing the power button on the front of the box or by using the remote control, the light on the front of the box flashes green (as if the box is switching on) but then immediately turns red, after this the Sky+ box will not switch on for a minute or two.

I have tried resetting by switching off at the power point for a minute and I have also checked for the latest software by holding in the back up button as I switch the power back on, but my software is up to date.

My main question is:

I have been in contact with the place I purchased the Sky+ box from, but I am expecting that I may need a new box, so if this is the case I was wondering:

I have a number of programs recorded on my Sky+ box which I would like to back up to my PC and then once I get a new Sky+ box transfer these over to my new Sky+ box. But I would not be able to remove the hard drive from its caddie (which is inside the Sky+ box) as one of the screws has a sticker over it, which if removed voids the warranty. So I would need to be able to connect the hard drive up to my PC by removing the power and data cable but leaving the hard drive in place in the Sky+ box and then connecting up the same cables to it that are inside my PC.

Is there a way that I could connect the hard drive up to my PC and transfer the programs off of my Sky+ box and on to my PC's hard drive. If there is could someone provide me with instructions on how to do it please, I would really really appreciate it :)

The question i would like to ask is that if I do this how do i gain access to these free channels? I've got an old sky card (blue card with yellow house) which I was thinking I could just slot in and get the free channels, would this work or would I have to ring sky up for a freeview card?

Hi,
I have just purchased a new build house and have to tell them what tv/sat points i want installed and where this weekend. I have no real technical knowledge i am afraid and wanted some advice on what wall boxes/wiring i should get put in to achieve the following:

Lounge - sky plus
Bedroom 1 - sky plus (so therefore multiroom subscription on sky)
bedrooms 2,3 and 4 - freesat (i think this is better option than freeview as otherwise i would have to get an aerial fitted aswell to get freeview instead)

I know that each sky plus box will need 2 feeds from the dish (so that makes 4 feeds in total) but then didnt know how i could then get the freesat in other rooms as will have run out of feeds from the dish if it only has 4 inputs?
