Yesterday, on November 18, 2009, Sony Computer Entertainment made its latest console launch in Brazil: the PlayStation 2.

Priced at R$799 (just over £279), the nine-year-old console is now set to become the hottest gift in South America this Christmas, perhaps competing with the Sinclair C5 and Jurassic Park on VHS.

According to Gizmodo Brazil, there is hope for Brazlian punters hoping to join the rest of the world in the 21st century; Sony apparently sells some older PS3 games in the country (£69 each, thanks) - just not the actual hardware to play them on. Hmm.

At those prices, it's no wonder piracy is quite popular in South America.

Obviously I am somewhat of a 'novice', and haven't a clue as to what games are out there, so any tips would be fab!

My husband & I recently were given a ps2, as our friend knows that we're just 'big kids'...

Although competitive against each other, we're not really into massive 'blood spattering' shooter games and/or really technical games...

We like 'family/friendly' style shooting games, either single player or 2 player, doens't matter.

There is a pc game called 'Platypus' that I really like and was wondering if there are PS2 games that are kind of like that?

We don't even mind games that take place in space etc...

Can anyone help us out in regards to title of games, where to get them cheap etc?

I've heard that NTSC games will play with Swap Magic but can be in black and white or run jerkily. Or is this just a problem with connection to the TV?
