Just finished setting up these phones and they are very nice indeed including the web interface. I saved the Dialing Plans until last as I thought it would take time to set up routing - but what a disappointment! There are virtually no useful features to speak of apart from "block". I expected to be able to prefix number patterns with predial numbers (eg 3rd party telcos, provider access codes) and maybe even set the time of day when this happens for low cost routing. Siemens seem to have half implemented this in the Call-by-call feature which essentially gets 1 number from a phonebook and forces the user to add the required number after it - something I can do on my ancient and cheap previous phone - going back to individual phonebook entries with the predial number+pause+international number+hash seems to be the only easy way to dial these still - the way I've been doing it for years and annoying when providers change and a shame to have to do this on this phone when the odd time I might want to call over VoIP (which will now need another phonebook entry)

Am I missing something or is this a terrible oversight on the part of Siemens?

Ta for any help or workarounds.

I cannot seem to open them, i have gone through the whole adding applications thing, and opening ports 5060 to 5065, but they still seem to be closed when i try a port checker online.
by the way, i followed this tutorial:

Hello all :),

I've just recently upgraded to a 'proper' VOIP phone, the Linksys SPA941. I configured my 2 Draytel accounts to it without any problems and they both dial out and ring in okay. I also have a PSTN number with sipgate which I configured using the SPA941 config settings on their website and that one worked okay too... for around 4 hours and then all incoming calls were going straight to voicemail without the phone ringing. This continued until I logged into the Sipura config panel and did a fresh 'save all settings' again which subsequently rebooted the phone and now the sipgate number will ring again, but I'm concerned about how long it will last before dying again :(.

Anyone know what's up with it please?

I'm running XP and the router is a Netgear WGT624.

Thanks :)

My current set of wireless DECT phones are starting to suffer from the dreaded power memory issue (i.e. the batteries are starting to lose their charge very quickly as they don't charge to 100%) and I was thinking of putting in a PBX system.

I have looked at the 3CX software and this seems to be quite good, even for the free edition - there are only two of us in the house so not really bothered about multiple lines/calls at the moment, although it might be useful for visitors etc - but lets crawl before we walk before we run. My landline is BT with Interweb from Orange and calls are routed through TalkTalk - all in all I am happy with my current arrangement - being a fuddy duddy I tend not to swap suppliers as often as the leaves fall off the trees.

Where I am getting confused is the link to the outside world. I am not convinced that I need to go down the line of Sipgate etc. I think I want hardware that will connect by Cat5 to the 3CX server and then by RJ45 to the POTs - the house phones would then connect via CAT5 to the 3CX server.

Could those in the know tell me if (a) this is correct/possible and if so (b) what kit I am likely to need? I have had a read through some of the posts on this forum as well as the VOIP-Info.org site along with the 3CX setup destructions, but have found the range of options and equipment there quite confusing.

This is a long term project, as well as having to convince herself of it - she has said 'I'm dialing 9 to get an outside line over my dead body', so there may be a bit of resistance here methinks!

Cheers,

I am looking to get an account with Tesco Internet Phone but I don't want a phone that plugs into my computer (basically I use a Mac and they're not compatible). I've also used their USB phones with PC's before and the PC's see them as sound cards which then routes all music, etc, through the phone.

I have also tried their Internet Phone that plugs directly into the router but that wasn't successful either.

Anyway, I remember a while ago, Tesco made an Internet Phone Adapter where you could connect a normal landline phone into the adapter which then plugs into your router. However, they don't seem to sell it anymore.

Is there anything similar to this on the market?

Cheers.

Howdy

I've started working for myself recently and I am doing all business via the net and my mobile (I'm a niche recruitment consultant in the Defence & New Media sectors). I'm trying not to get dragged in to a fixed line contract with BT/Virgin if I can help it.

I would like to set up a phone line for business only instead of it all via my mobile; I have looked at the Vonage packages and they seem reasonable (£5.99 per month rate (call fee's on top) to UK only calls plus free hardware).

I currently have my PC (Windows XP - 1GB ram and 110GB hard-drive) running via Virgin broadband (cable - ethernet connection to the modem).

Would Vonage be a good solution or should I consider Skype?

If Vonage is the answer; is it just as simple and straight forward as using a land-line? Also; how do they work out call charges (i.e. does anything extra get put on the Virgin Media bill)?

Thanks
