I assume its possible to just get the tv pic and sound to play through my surround sound system? I understand that HDMI cables are for Audio/Video ?
To do so I would have thought that there would have been a "TV in" hdmi socket on the av amp? Any help advice would be appreciated as I am new to Cinema set-ups.

Evening All

Got my new AVR 3310 today, couldn’t really afford it but thought i would splash out as my HDMI switch popped last week

Got it home and unpacked it, plugged the SKY HD box via HDMI and plugged the HDMI Connected to my new Panasonic Tele in to the output on the AVR. Nothing, not a thing, went through instructions couldn’t figure it out.

Unplugged Sky box plugged back in and after the usual couple of mins i get a banner saying that the screen isn’t hdcp compliant and to unplug the cable. Plug the cable from the tele in to the back of the sky box and it works fine, swap it back to the amp and I can get in to the GUI, everything appears normal until I plug the HDMi cable in to the back of the amp, then when that input is selected, cant get in to GUI etc..

Phoned sky, they said they could send a specialist engineer out to check that I had cabled it correctly but much past that, they didn’t know.

Brand new amp shouldn’t have any problems with sky hd as it is hdcp compliant

Has anyone got any idea’s ?

Have sky cut off the Component on the back of the sky box cause I couldn’t that to work either ??

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Jon

I'm wondering if using the external 7.1 inputs on my 2808 is a purer signal path than using the CD input and setting the 2808 to 'Pure direct'? As there is no control of delays, eq, etc for these inputs I wondered if the signal is passed through in analoge format?

I've been playing around with various combinations of power amps with a longer term view to getting separates. The main reason being that I'm dissapointed with stereo music from my 2808, compared to my old NAD C350 stereo intergrated (even when using the 2808 as a pre amp, plus the C350's power amp stage).

I have been using the 'CD' inputs and set the 2808 to 'Pure Direct' with no subwoofer, but today I tried using the left and right inputs from the 'external input' connections. I swear that the sound is better this way, such that I can't really tell the difference to using my NAD C350 for both pre and power amp duties or using the 2808 to feed into the power amp inputs on the C350. Does the external input simply pass in analogue without any ADA going on....or am I simply suffering from placebo effect? ;)

It makes my setup easier to use if I'm happy with using the 2808 for all inputs....the 2808 sounds great for movies BTW, just the CD side is a bit lacking, which you probably should expect I suppose. Unless this effect wears off on me, then it means I can stick with the 2808 a little longer and upgrade other parts of my system instead. :smashin:

Denon AVR1909 Wii Video Lag (LE40B650)

Hi - long time listener, first time caller!

It's an over-used phrase, but I'm sorry if this has been covered before as I couldn't find anything specific in the myriad of threads/messages in the forum.

I'm having major trouble with video lag on my new TV, especially when playing on the Wii.

I've just bought a Samsung LE40B650T2W which is being driven via HDMI (into HDMI1 socket) from my Denon AVR1909 - the following devices are connected to the AVR:
- Onkyo DVD DV-SP406 via HDMI
- Samsung V+HD Virgin Media box (can't find a product code) via HDMI
- Nintendo Wii via component

I have played with the HDMI input and output settings without any luck, but the lag has been almost sorted (although not 100% to my liking) by adding a maximum 200ms audio delay on the DVD and Cable inputs.
The problem is that adding 200ms audio delay to the Wii input does indeed sync up the sound and image, but obviously means that they are 200ms out from the actual playing of the console, making it unusable. :thumbsdow
(There is no lag on the DVD or Cable when the devices are directly connected to the TV, however there is still a very minor lag on the Wii when directly connected.)

Any help would be massively appreciated - as I spent quite a lot of last night getting quite frustrated!!

Cheers,
Tom

HTPC Rig-
i7 cpu
Gigabyte ex58-ud5
xfire Ati 4890

Using both the onboard audio through the optical spdif port and the hdmi audio through the video cards I come up with the same problem. I have no rear speakers. Instead the sound that should be going to the rears is being pushed to the fronts. My front towers work great, center channel does its thing, and the subwoofer works as well, but when I go through an audio check of the speakers the rear sound instead comes from my front towers. I've installed/uninstalled every driver that I have and several older versions I am pulling my hair out over this has anyone had this problem and how can I remedy it? I don't care if I have to output my audio through the optical spdif or the hdmi, whichever one works. Thanks for reading.

HTPC: (shuttle XPC SP35P2 Pro) with ALC888 sound chip and SPDIF out (digital out). and AC3filter in passtrough mode.

the HTPC is connected to the AVR 3805 (+bose accoustimass 10 ) receiver with toslink.

when i am testing with movies and demo s. from what i hear i am experiencing that with a TRUEHD DOLBY DEMO, i get sound from:

FrLeft: ok (this is left)
FrRight:ok (this is Right)
Center: ok (this is centre speaker)
Rright: sound comes form FrRight (and a bit from centre) not from rear speaker
RLeft: sound comes form FrLeft (and a bit from centre) not from rear speaker
but no sound is coming from the back speaker and in movie, or very very low..

my problem is more about configuring my receiver very well.
also because in the windows 5.1 test some speaker (FrLeft) is not so loud the the rest. and in the windows test i get sound from every speaker.

i have checked al the volume levels..!

but i think my receiver is not in the right MODE , i thought Auto DTS, is the rigth one.

now my question is:

has anyone have the same config HTPC (alc888) with toslink and AVR3805

and if yes what is the best config??
and how can i preform the best install for my AVR-3805 or how can i be sure my avr is configured 100% ok.

do i connect my bose set to main zone?
what do i do with zone 2 and zone 3 surround back and all those thing.

sorry that i sound like a denon noob.

:lease:
thanks in advance...

Sony DVD HDR HXD970
Toshiba SD-330ESB DVD
Kek Speakers and sub
Pioneer PDP 408 XD

I'm not a big watcher of DVDs but it appears that if I put in a DTS DVD the DTS light does not come on the Denon. It always defaults to Dolby D. I've had a few goes at checking the setup of everything over the last few months but I can't seem to sort it out.
DTS has definitely worked in the past, not just the light coming on, but the better sound effects

Sony and Tosh have been connected to the Denon separately via Coax. The fact that they both don't work, and I am 110% sure the Tosh did play in DTS mode, would suggest something in the Denon has changed but I can't for the life of me see or think what.

Any suggestions AV gurus. :lease:

The legend for this row of buttons has a very low contrast and is not illuminated, at least on my unit. This makes it very difficult to find the right button when there's not much light around.

Is this a design weakness of AVR-1910 in general, did I miss the hidden "illuminate main unit display key legend" function, or is my AVR-1910 defective?

What about your AVR-1910s? Is the main unit display key legend illuminated and well-readable?

Regards,
I am only using the amp as 5.1 not 7.1 - all I want to know is can I use the audyssey setup and if so how?

Currently when I try to run Audyssey it stops as it does not detect Surround L/R speakers (or FHL and FHR). Is there a setting I need to activate to tell the amp to ignore this?

Any help much appreciated, am desperate to get this up and running tonight!
