For a while now, we have recognised that the AVForums home page was too text-heavy and for new visitors, didn't present a particularly easy way to navigate through to the particular area of interest.
The new buttons address both these issues.
Also the AVForums.com home page is intended to be the page where we present visitors with the latest editorial content. To this end, we have a new carousel of the latest videos, plus the usual website news items and notices of the latest movie reviews, hardware review and podcast.
We have removed the list of latest threads from the home page because most people are interested in a few areas of AVForums, and are not interested in all the latest topics from all the forums.
However, we do recognise that some people want to see all the latest threads, so we have added a 'New Threads' link in the quick menu which shows the new threads since your last visit. This is the same automatic search as the 'New Posts' link, but orders the search results by the thread start date. It is better than the old list of new threads because you can navigate through several pages of new threads.
There is also a new Home Cinema Hub page intended to be the home page for home cinema at AVForums.
It also contains graphical buttons leading to the home cinema related forums plus the latest home cinema related topics and news. We will be introducing more new home pages like this in recognition that people will want to focus on specific areas of interest and would prefer to bookmark these areas as their entry points to AVForums.com.

Recently a particularly nasty individual has been registering with login names similar to traders with goods for sale in our classified forums.
He/she has been finding people who had made offers on the goods but had been turned down by the trader.
He/she has then been sending private messages to these people pretending to be the original trader. In the PMs he/she stated that they had changed their mind, agreed to the offer and asked for payment.
One person has been taken in by this scam and sent a bank transfer. We will be assisting this person and the police in securing a prosecution.
So far we have been able to ban all the existing and new accounts by this scammer.
But we ask that you please *always* follow our trading guidelines and in particular, do not, under any circumstances, negotiate or agree trades by private message.
I will be adding all the information we have about this person when I have collated it shortly. We will be trying to uncover as much information about them as possible.
Thanks go to the moderators for helping to identify and deal with this scammer
