Hi there i have the Onkyo 906 Amplifyer, and the mordaunt short mezzo Range

im useing Mezzo 2 as Back surround Speakers

and the 5 as Center Speaker

the 8's as Front floor standers

and the Mezzo 9 is my sub,

I have had them all for about 6 months now, and getting used to it All, But one of the things i have noticed but never really known what to pop there, is under Speaker Config under my Onkyo 906's setup it lets me set up the "hz" of my speakers now i know what it means, but im not sure what it wants me to pop there as this is my first Proper system, it lets me choose for Each speaker ( or set at least like front back sub Center ect ect.)

it lets me choose from between 40 Hz - 200Hz for each one and under 80 is States (THX) <---- Just like that and then under my frount speakers it also lets me choose FULL RANGE,

Anyone got any idears? i was thinking about digging my Manual out again but not much luck as its in the loft in one of many Boxs D:

any help will be helpfull! :)

Thanks a lot, and sorry about the Bad Spelling.

In the process of designing and building my Home Cinema Solution. I have a number of questions:

Do I put the Sub in the chimney breast or have it somewhere else in the room?

Which is best?

Is it even practical to have the sub in the chimney and get the same bass effect?

If it does go in the chimney, does it have to be secured to something to stop rattle or can I just place it on a shelf?

As shown in the picture, is it okay to have it facing (in this case) to the right of the chimney breast, firing sound into the front right cover of the room?

I'm planning to put an additional speaker mesh over the hole which the Sub fits through in the plasterboard, assuming any type of speaker mesh should work okay?

Lots of questions I know, appreciate any discussion it creates,

Advice needed for 5.1 setup

Can anyone give me any advice on 5.1 speaker placement?

I have a Yamaha RX-V465 amp and the Jamo AC102 HC5S speaker package.

Below is a diagram of my intended room layout (4m x 4m/13ft x 13ft):

Image:...

Can anyone give me any advice on 5.1 speaker placement?

I have a Yamaha RX-V465 amp and the Jamo AC102 HC5S speaker package.

Below is a diagram of my intended room layout (4m x 4m/13ft x 13ft):

The TV will be wall mounted on the chimney breast and the centre speaker will be directly below at ear height. Both TV and centre speaker will be 2.60m (8.5 ft) from the listening position (1.00m height - I'm a shortarse!).

The problem I have is with the fronts and surrounds. I've done some measuring and these are the options I have:

Fronts:

Position 1: Ear Height, 3.30m (10.8 ft) from listening position, 3.92m (12.8 ft) apart
Position 2: Ear Height, 3.50m (11.5 ft) from listening position, 3.92m (12.8 ft) apart
Position 3: Ear Height, 2.80m (9.2 ft) from listening position, 1.55m (5.1 ft) apart

Rears:

This is the real problem, because of the two doors on the back wall.

As far as I can tell, the back left has 3 possibles (A, B, C) as does the back right (D, E, F).

I'll be aiming the rear speakers above ear height whatever the setup. However, I'd like to keep them at roughly equal distances from the listening position, so that would mean pairing the following:

A/B and E/F: minimum 2.10m (6.9 ft) high (because of the door into the lounge), so at least 2.30m (7.5 ft) from listening position

or

C and D: minimum 1.60m (5.2 ft) height (because of the stair cupboard door), so at least 1.60m (5.2 ft) from listening position

Do any of you wonderfully helpful people have any suggestions before I start cutting cable and drilling holes to try stuff out?

Cheers,

Mike

Hey guys,

My brother has just purchased a new house and is currently having all the electrics done. He is also having surround sound installed (5.1) but wants the fronts and surrounds to be up high in the corners of the lounge. I must admit, I have seen this setup in a couple of houses I have worked in (I believe the speakers were white, either bose or pioneer, and each one had 2 little satellites speakers pointing in slightly different directions), but I think this may have been because the room were fairly large.

His lounge is roughly 12x12, so would having the speakers up in the corners affect the way it sounds in anyway? Would be better off having them at ear level instead?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Hi all,

looking for some advice regarding how to setup/install the satellite speakers in our 5.1 setup in the living room - afraid the room has a pretty poor shape for the purpose, so I'll just have to make the best of it :)

I've attached some photo's and a scetch of the room layout:

Speaker system I'll be using are the Quad L-ite satellites with center and a big Velodyne sub that will probably be muffled under the table between the two couches.

I've purchased wall mounts for the satellites, the centre is already sorted. Main question now is whether I should mount the satellites directly besides the TV (and if so, at what height? does it matter much for sound or is it mostly cosmetical? try to have them exactly in the middle of the TV's height? - problem is light button on right side though... *suck*). Or should I instead mount them further off from the TV, so the front right ends up on the other side of the opening to the kitchen? In that case put the front left further out as well? Problem is that when sitting in the 3-seat couch this would probably work, but if sitting in the 2-seat couch one would mostly get sound from the front right.

In fact I'll be having similar problems with the rears, but those aren't as dominant in the overall sound image I guess...

Any advice/opinions appreciated, feel free to take and edit any of the photo's or the scetch!

Cheers
