Hi! I really hope you can help. Im looking to buy some cd decks for my boyfriend for christmas, but have no idea what im looking for. He used to dj at parties and in clubs with turntables (i bought him some technics a few years ago). But since we had our daughter he's got out of practice. He says he'd love to return to djing, but the technics need new needles and the vinyl collection is well out dated. I think he's better off getting cd decks than spending money updating the technics, and he seems keen for cd decks too. However,i obviously want to surprise him, but there is such a huge range on the market i dont know what im looking for. I dont want to spend a huge amount, as he will be fairly new to cd decks, only having used friends a couple of times (but very experienced with turntables so he has the skill), and due to comitments he may or may not pursue the djing further. So i basically want to try and pick up an ebay bargain or something like that. It doesnt have to be top of the range, but does have to have the right features to be useable should he want to begin to take it further, and for him to have fun with. I know some of these cd decks just have 2 slots to play one cd after another-this is not what i want! I have seen the ones where there is a dial on top and you get hands on mixing and scratching the cds using these dials as if they are turntables. What are these types of decks called, and what would be a good brand to look for? Any ideas on price? When im browsing, what specifications are important to look for? I would really appreciate your help!! Thanks, louise x

I differ from most on here in that I like to produce orchestral music (some of my work I've linked to on here in the past if you're interested).
Unfortunately I don't have much to say in the usual guitar, drums and DJ type discussions, so consequently I havn't dropped in here for a while.

But it's getting near Xmas...
I reckon most musicians would have a crack at writing a Christmas song or some festive sounding instrumental music if they had some incentive.

So how about we have a Christmas single competition?
Other AVF members could vote on our entries and we could have our own exclusive AVForums christmas singles chart, and our own AVForums Christmas No.1 :rotfl:

Probably a bonkers idea really, but anyone up for it?

Partly because Im getting rid of all the PCs in the house, and I have a spare macbook that I can use for reording, and eventually using live.

Traditionally I used to record a backing track for the band from my Cubase mix and just play that with on a mini disk into the mixer.

Would like to do things more on the fly now with keyboards and sequencing software (any recomendations?). Some equipment Id like to connect are my Roland MC303, Korg X5d, Korg MS2000, as well as some software synths.

Any hints would be appreciated

Was just nipping round the corner to my mates flat with my Harley Benton ES335 [Gibson] replica. Didn't see the need to be fussing around with my gig-bag as it was literally a minutes' walk away, so just slung the thing over my shoulder by the strap. Of course the strap came loose and my beloved guitar fell straight from my back and landed headstock-first onto the hard concrete floor. :suicide: ... Did some big damage in fact. Took a horrible chip out of the headstock and it's just killing me now! (See picture) I'm absolutely gutted. I really don't know what to do! With it being a solid-body guitar, it's not at all possible to just go replacing various bits and pieces! :thumbsdow Any ideas as to how to go about repairing the guitar or at least making the damage less noticeable? I may not find the guidance I need, but AVF usually has the answers! :(

Hi Guys,
Ive been playing acoustic for about 5 months now and was given an electric by a friend. I have yet to play the electric and would really like to start soon. At the moment I dont have an amp and really dont have a clue which one to get. I value sound more than features and have a budget of £100 which I could stretch. Im only looking for an amp for practice at home and I was looking at the Roland Cube 10 or the Peavey Vypxr 15. I read that valve amps sound the best and I would prefure a 'British Amp' i.e AC/DC type sound. Could I get this sound from one of the emulating amps or should I pay the extra and get a valve amp. I know AC/DC use Marshall amps and have used Orange in the past but I think there valve amps are out of my budget. Any advice would be great. Im into all sorts of music really anything from Kings of Leon to Bon Jovi and U2.

Many thanks

I have tried looking around (the web and this site) but have come to a stop because it just appears pretty tough to find anything for such an old bit of kit. Nearly a decade old now (worth £600 in its time).

Any help?
