Hi all,

I just made a semi impulse purchase of the Klipsch Image S4i earbuds for use with my iPhone. At £90 for a pair of earbuds I was excited. Now having listened to them... I was expecting a lot more. Not only that but on initial side by side testing my existing earbuds appear to sound better!

I have been using a pair of Sony MDR-EX082 earbuds. To put this in perspective: I don't even know if these are available to buy seperately. I got them about a year ago with my filler DAP the Sony Walkman NWZA828K 8GB Video with Wireless Headphones which I bought because as far as bluetooth headphones go these were recommended. It cost me £79.90 and these earbuds were bundled in as a wired backup spare set for when the bluetooth headset ran out of battery.

Now, the S4i's. The main issue appears to be that whilst I can detect an element of clarity not present in my Sony's in the upper ranges, the mids and lows just sound muddy. In my opinion this appears to be caused by an overdone amount of enchanced bass.

I've had a modicum of success by enabling the "bass reducer" preset in the iPhone's EQ but I feel like I shouldn't be doing this.

Can anyone offer me any advice?

Hello folks,

So being the avid music listener that I have become lately, I've found myself more interested in obtaining the best sound from my speakers. Now usually I let the audiophile in me only affect what main headphones I buy, but recently I realized that I find myself listening to my music via my iPod Touch more then I do any other means. So I've decided to do a little research into the best noise cancelling earphones out there.

Now for the past year and a half I've found the Sennheiser CX300 brand to be superb value for money, yes the original set never lasted longer then 4 months but the sound quality was impressive and the cost even more attractive. But I know there are probably better sounding headphones out there, that do probably cost a little more. So can anyone recommend any wise upgrades from the Sennheiser CX300 II Precision Eco?

To be honest if I don't find headphones that meet my needs then I'll probably find myself buying another set of CX300 II Precision Eco headphones, but I'm actively looking for an upgrade pair that will offer better sound. I know you can spend ridiculous amounts of money on these, the Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro can cost £200 plus on average. But I'm willing to check out any recommendations.

I should note that I do have a thing for Sennheiser products, all the headphones I've ever bought have been Sennheiser and they've been bought because of the quality I know I'll obtain them their headphones. But that doesn't mean I shan't check out other brands.

Thanks.

EDIT!
Forgot to mention some of the headphones I've already been taking a look at:

Play.com (UK) : Sennheiser CX 550 Style II Headphones : Electronics - Free Delivery
A friend as highly recommended these, plus they seem to be the more sophisticated upgrade from the CX300. Never seen these for sale before so there new to me, but price wise it's about the price I'm willing to pay. Currently my first pick.

Hi,

I've recently bought my first house with the girlfriend and to help us stay together, I've decided a pair of wireless headphones are a must. I like to play Xbox pretty loud and as this house is a terraced, i dont think the neighbours would be to happy either. Could anyone suggest some decent wireless headphones for around £50 or under?

Also, i'm only going to be sat a few metres from the TV when playing so are there any decent 'wired' alternatives? Do you get a noticably better sound with wired over wireless? If they have a decent lead length, i'd be prepared to try them.

Thanks loads in advance :smashin:

The reason i have chosen between these two, is comfort.

Comfort is my first requirement. The Bose because they sit in the bowl on the outside of the ear. The Klipsch because they have very small tips, which would suit my ear canal's better.
Although i have small ear canal's, i have to use the larger of the gel pieces with the Bose.

Yes, i have the Bose already. I ordered them from QVC recently, purely because of their returns policy. I get some time to try them without any loss to me, apart from the returns postage cost.

The Bose do sit reasonably comfortably in my ear, so i can't see that being an issue if i keep them. The other bonus is cable microphonics, or lack of it. They are not noise cancelling in anyway, and Bose are actually up front in telling you this. They are also not the most defined of ear phones, although they could need running in a bit. Their range is not that spectacular either.

Next up, the Klipsch Image S4. Well, i actually havn't got these but their write up's are really good on several points. Although i have found in ear canal phone's quite uncomfortable in the past, but i think that was down to fit. Plus i find cable microphonics and hearing yourself breathing, very irritating. The Klipsch i believe come with particulary small gel tip's, which i think may suit me better.

So, what do i do ? Obviously trying the Klipsch out is very difficult due to returns etc.

Decisions, decisions

I'm buying both an HDTV and a PS3 tomorrow and really want to use this headset, mainly because I don't want to use speakers when watching films and playing games.

If there's anything I need to know/buy could you please help me out?

Oh, the headset came with some kind of RCA converter thingy, but it has 6 wires on the other side! Perhaps an AMP is needed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all. Ive been reading up on headphones & amps for a few weeks on and off as Ive flirted with the idea of a birthday gift for myself. Well, the day has arrived and I feel Ive read too much stuff and gone full circle - Im clueless!

No only joking, Right now Im thinking I would like the senn. 595's; within my price range and seem to be very well received everywhere, with little fault for the price. Of course the open-back element may cause problems for me, and perhaps Im better of with the hd448s, but my gut says 'take 595s'.

I want the 'phones for my laptop mainly, and also my ipod occasionally. On the laptop I will be watching HD-streamed sports, DVDs and then my Itunes music collection (mainly rock & folk, and some soundtracks). I am often sat on a large sofa with my girlfriend watching TV, so you can see my dilemma with open-backs.

So this leads me to my first question. For someone who doesnt listen to incredibly loud sound, but rather wants a full range of sound, would I struggle with open-backs next to endless sex in the city? How loud is the sound leaking from the phones at a descent volume? Is it minor? Or almost the same volume escaping?

Secondly, Im gathering I would need an amp for both the laptop & ipod with these phones. Would it be the same for the hd448s (incase i change my mind again!)? Any recommendations? I was eyeing the graham slee voyager, though a bit more than i thought id spend. I also saw the total bithead, though the possible custom charges could inevitably make it as expensive as the voyager.

hope thats something you fellas can shed dome light on for me...

thanks all

jamie

Things to consider:

1. I love in-ear headphones, and these are what I want
2. I love bass, the bassier the better
3. Quality and clarity is important
4. I listen to lots of metal, rock and indie, but I need good performance for the occasional techno, dance, rap.

Apparently the Sennheiser IE8s have a bass adjuster built in, for cranking up the bass. That sounds great to me, but are they actually a decent pair of phones? Similarly, the Sony MDR-EX700s are apparently great for bass, but Im worried Sony dont have the same mark of audio excellence. Which out of these two should I buy, and if appropriate, reccommend another pair as well as picking one.

I'm currently studying Audio Production at college so I think it's appropriate that I invest in a great pair of headphones. I work on a mac (if that matters ) in a fairly noisy classroom. My budget is around £200, but if there are a fantastic pair that are a little more expensive, then I don't mind. Obviously sound is by far the most important factor for me, and then comfort as I work on the mac for hours. Here's a list of some I've picked out:

Goldring NS1000

Sony MDR7506

Creative Aurvana Live

AKG K 701

Sennheiser HD280 Pro

Granted, I don't know much about headphones, but I'm willing to learn. Can anybody point me in the right direction please? It doesn't have to be a pair on my list above.

i stumbled upon a very well respected headphone website where these britsh made goldrings were being raved about (almost 49 pages of comments) ie some reviews were putting them on a par with the 595 and the Ad700.

these are currently around £55 online whilst the ad700 etc are double that.

does anyone here have any experience with these cans

i am seriously tempted by these
