Hello all, Saw a post awhile back, not sure if in owners or firmware thread regarding the 600 cutting out at volume. Turn up the volume to ~57-60 level and FAULT in large font appears on the lcd display, volume cuts out, drop volume and sound returns though Fault usually remains displayed. Only thus far occurred with music playback either optical/HDMI from Appletv, also from coaxial from Arcam dvd79. Music level not that high to my ears (appreciate numeric figure is not an absolute measure so to speak), played through b-iamped Mission E83 Elegantes. Dealer spoke to Arcam and advised (for music playback) set the fronts to small and use subwoofer, seems to defeat object of large floorstanders.

Perservered, but the clan diaspora returned from the travels and while impressed with sound quality were less so with volume. Phone Arcam direct who stated maybe I ought to have at a system for music, the 600 being more geared to movies?! Also felt I was perhaps being optimistic in using 600 to bi-amp the elegantes. Not sure about that, always got reasonable volume from my old avr 300. Anyhow, they've offered to take unit back via dealer and bench test to see if it is performing within specification - a real pain if out of commission for a month or so.

Seem to recall there is an option to set the speaker impedance to 4 ohms - would that be of any help? A bit unsure if this is a fault or something I have to live with; the unit is will ventilated and not hot when this happens. Suppose just conceivable a speaker problem, but would't just a left or right cut out then?

I trawled back and forth but can't find the original post - anyone any thoughts.

I'm told the part is available and the repair will cost £120. I was intending to sell the unit after repair and I'm now wondering if this is viable proposition. I trust the repairer and it's taken him a long time to track down the problem.

Anyone think that this model, good conditon (in black) with original box and remote will make a worthwhile amount more than the repair cost?

Right now I am using my pioneer LX71 bluray player as a cdplayer (which is connected to the av9 analog and optical) and was considering to buy a stand alone cdplayer (Arcam cd37) but in the meantime I got the idea to have a nas server there will feed a logitech transporter. I will of couse have to rip my entire cd collection and store it on the server.

How should I connect the transporter to the av9 to get the best sound. should I use the optical connection and let the av9 do the digital to analog conversion or should I analog output from the transporter and let it do the conversion? Or is this idea not really any good?

I just read an article in the December 2009 of the Absolute Sound wherein the article lauded two Arcam products, the FMJ-A28 integrated amp and the FMJ CD17 CD player. The article noted these units contained Stealth Mask and Mask of Silence technology. It also stated that while these terms may seem like "sales babble" there is something to this "Mask of Silence thing." I am sure that both the AV888 and the AVP 600 employ these technologies. However, I wonder why they (Arcam) don't mention them? My personal opinion is that they are not mentioned because it gives the same sonic benefits as the AV9 making these units only comparable and not better than the AV9's analog section. Does anyone else have a thought on this subject?

I've tried both V4.12 and V5.06 firmware and fail to get a sensible picture on either my Panasonic 42PV500 or my Pioneer LX5090 when selecting SD interlaced output via HDMI.

Has anyone anyone ever made any sense of this and got it working?
