My sound pressure level meter is a cheap Maplin one which measures dBc fast as opposed to slow that the manual suggests.

Secondly, I have the dolby pro 2 add on so it has 5.1 outputs + two extra rear surround. I'm using 4 speakers, front l/r is obvious but should the two on the back wall be connected as surround rear or l/r surround ? would it actually matter once I've specified what speakers are attached ?
The problem is with some Blu-rays we have an occasional problem with the sound as it appears if the dialog is being spoken underwater!

We are currently watching the wonderful Battlestar Galactica box set but the sound problems are driving us mad. Is there anything I can do within the setup menu of either the TAG or Sony? Would a better cable solve the problem? On the TAG I can cure it once it happens by changing audio from DTS movie to DTS music but it doesn’t stop it from happening again within five minutes on either option

Hi there,

I've got an AV192 with the programming lead that's sat here surplus to requirements after an upgrade.

Before I look to sell it, I'd like to get some idea of it's worth.

More the programming lead really, as I think these are short on the ground.

It's not had the prologic upgrade but at least with the cable someone can buy the license and upgrade the firmware themselves.

Working perfectly until it's removal obviously.

Not in original packaging, I've got to find the remote. But it's here somewhere.

I might have it serviced by Keith in Banbury before selling, doesn't need it but every 192 I've seen always benefits from one for longer life.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks,

Daniel.

After being happy with the Tag Mclaren AV32 DP I have been pondering on upgrading, main reason to hear how good HD sound really is.

I have never had anything really negative to complain about the Tag only the fact that technology has moved on and after paying such a premium for a cult piece of kit I was always hesitant on selling it and moving on.

So last week I took the plunge out of the blue and decided to sell my Tag, withing a few days it sold, next day pick up a brand new Pioneer LX82.

Please note that I am only using the LX82 as a pre together with bridged Lexicon/Bryston power amps, and my observations are purely for AV Movies and NOT MUSIC.

So everthing in stu and jacked in, ran the auto MACC 10mins later put on a film and WOW!! the detail spaciousnees, drive and energy is amazing, extremely cinematic. Compared to the TAG I really do prefer it, in comparison it make the TAG sound laid back and boring and slow.

I did find dialouge a bit thin, and lack a bit of warmth so I check all the Auto MACC setiings and alot of the reading were wrong, so I did the SPL set manually using a tripod and SPL meter, measure all the distances manually, it sounded better, but still I would like a bit more weight in the centre so I use the THX Cinema mode and that was much better.

As for video swicthing its fantasic, I can now use both the projector and plasma at a touch of a button!!f inally!!

Took me a while to figure out how to access the TRU HD sound formats, but once sorted it was fine.

I hope this helps anybody deciding on upgrading or moving to HD.

After some thoughts on the pros and cons of using a Behringer Feedback Destroyer for my subwoofer EQ while using my AV32 DP to do the rest of my system?

The reason for this is that I am using the 5.1 bypass for my Blu-ray and thought this would be a good way of improving the bass response for HD audio, although I know I would loose the EQ on the 5 main channels. I would simple disable the Subwoofer EQ in the AV32 and insert the Behringer Feedback Destroyer between the AV32 and the Subwoofer.

I can't seem to see any downside, the cost is fairly small and then it's just the set-up time, and I already have all the filters so should be simple case of setting levels and loading filters from the DP.

Since the arrival of DTS-MA my TAG setup has been "plagued" by defaulting to 'DTS-Matrix 6.1'.

With DTS-MA at least 90% of the time the mix playing through the av32dp only contains 5.1 channel information. This means all surround sound will be played through the side speakers only.

I found for 5.1 surround handling with able enough speakers I very much prefer to have the same information going to the sides and the rears. This not only creates 2 phantom speakers much closer to where 5.1 surrounds were meant to be, but in my experience the loss in focus actually helps the feeling of envelopment in sound. Luckily the TAG has a setting which enables all 5.1 mixes to be played like that,, but it only does so for 5.1 playback, not for 6.1 settings.

In general I love the presence of DTS-MA on current BD titles, but I had to each time manually switch the TAG to DTS 5.1. Recently I fixed that by setting the "Input" defaults to 'Direct' for 44kHz, 48kHz and 96kHz. The 44kHz setting was already like that, but the other ones were on 'Dolby IIX - movie/music'.

Lately I discovered my TAG had developed a fault, because most of the times when I switched sources or skipped scenes my rears were playing stereo and none of the other speakers produced sound (which is quite weird I can tell you). I then was forced to manually re-select DTS or whatever surround mode I was on. It did so for all sources. I thought my TAG was on its way out. :(

After several frustrating days inspiration struck me yesterday evening, and I decided to try to change the default "Input" settings and this solved the "fault". Using "Direct + Sub" for 48kHz and 96kHz fixes both issues, and now I can once again comfortably enjoy 5.1 channel playback through my 7.1 speaker setup.

I hope this information is of help for fellow TAG owners out there. :)
