Other than a few videos/demos we haven't seen much of the new controllers - and by these I mean Microsoft's Natal and Sony's Wand - but we do know they are both camera based and require motion.

Whether you are a mouse/keyboard player, joystick/wheel gamer or a gamepad user all are fairly stationary, i.e. you are seated. So how will you react to the new controllers which will require you to be more animated? And how would you want to play (for example) a shooter game with the new controllers?

Personally I would feel a little silly if I had to use my arm as a gun/pointer. And how would you fire - wave your fingers? What about walking? Would you feel comfortable walking on the spot? I just can't quite see how they can pull of shooter controls with a camera based system. It might be easier for Sony's wand if it has buttons - but Microsoft's camera only system?

My partner and I have 3 children. We have held off from buying hand held games for them until now! My little girl who is only 6 is hoping to get a DS, from talking to other mums from her class this seems the "norm" and so We will be getting her a DS!! However my boys who are 9 and 11 are excited about getting a console but are un sure which to go for a DSi or a PSP.
My question is really just - Which do you think is best for their ages and intrests?

Basicaly both boys are active, they are involved in lots of out of school clubs, including Guitar, cubs, warhammer40k and kick boxing. They love to play fight, love listening to music, It would need to be easily interactive so they could play against each other and I would also like for there to be educational games available too!

I recently sold all my consoles, built a gaming pc, bought mdoern warfare 2 and hated the keyboard, so thought I'd pick up a 360 with modern warfare.

So go to game, and my indecisiveness kicks in, which one should I get.......

I end up walking out with a super elite, and a 250gb ps3.

I just spent nearly a grand on two consoles, accessories and games. :eek:

The gamecube barely broke even and the other two were huge financial disasters but I'm interested in which console had the best games overall.

I'm torn between the original xbox and dreamcast. For me the gamecube is behind them and ps2 last but I wouldn't say its clear cut for me. Carefully laid plans, pre-orders 6 months or more, couriers being phoned and forced to do u-turns to get that precious payload into the eager recipients hands. Hardened gamers using the same strategy they'd eventually use in MW2 to try to guarantee that game is in their hands on release-day. The blessed few who got it early thanks to the like of The Hut breaking ranks.

Yet there are heart-breaking stories aplenty. Broken promises. Deliveries missed. All against a backdrop of casual buyers picking up the game from the likes of Sainsbury's, Tesco's or Makro with no problem at all, and for significantly less money to-boot.

Some people have bought multiple copies, juggling the ebay odds and 7 day distance selling regs. I've even seen adults comments suggesting trying to palm the more expensive copy onto their children.

So what's the point of this thread? It was largely prompted by one father saying "I'll never use Play again" when they let him down and he had to go out into a dark evening and risk Asda-rash to pick up this hallowed clam-shell. I feel his pain, the thoughts of a disappointed child who'd staked life and peer-pressure on this day for 6 months or more would be too much to take.

But it did strike me that we, the great unwashed customer base, simply want it all ways. We go into these bricks and mortar stores, fondle the goods, sneer at the prices knowing we can pick it up infinitely cheaper on t'internet, and pity the poor people queuing in some sort of superior gaze thinking "you are being ripped off m8".

Yet, on days like these, we're brought down to the same level. Getting anything from A to B is a risk. If you don't grab the goods in your sweaty hands, it's a risk. Don't take your bat home because Play, or any other etailer, didn't deliver. They simply aren't designed for days like these, no matter how hard they try.

Of course, The Hut, who broke ranks and simply went for it are unlikely to be sued by the game publishers. The broke the rules and get the plaudits. And probably more future customers. Especially when MW3 hits the streets. Or rather, the ether. Perhaps there is a lesson there for the etailers?

I've lost the plot myself on the aim of this thread. From now on I think I will wait to see what supermarkets are doing before pre ordering AAA titles.
