good reviews, i nearly got these in black a while ago (only 5.1 then as well) but managed to get some cantons used off here, otherwise would have gone for em...

Called CPC today to find out if they had Black available - couldn't tell me unless i had the manufacturer code ! so if anyone knows it for a set of 'EFX 6.1 Black' that would be useful....

Am i right to wonder why this 6.1 set is a lot cheaper than even the 5.1 set i've seen elsewhere? Are CPC reliable / don't deal in grade b stock etc?

Ordered these on Saturday and recieved them this morning. However I didn't get a 6.1 set, instead they've sent me a 5.1 SFX set in Black

I received my 6.1 silver set this morning and I'm really impressed with them. I'm very happy with the quality looks and feel of them, especially the satellites.
I found this excellent review for anyone interested. It's for the older FX set so I assume the EFX is newer/better?

In honesty I much prefer the black as almost everything else in my setup is black. I did have a 6.1 setup before but I'm not sure if I'll miss the extra speaker that much. I think I'll just keep them and maybe get a couple of extra speakers later on for 7.1.

Is there much difference between the EFX and SFX? The specs seem identical.

Thanks for the excellent link , i recommended these with a yamaha 861 which i helped set up for my brother in law , and for approx £350 the bang for the buck is amazing ! Anyone thinking about this combo DON'T HESITATE ! The speakers are nice and discrete and the yamaha powers them nicely ! There may be better 2nd hand bargains to be had ,but for a new system under £350 this takes some beating !

I've teamed the tannoys up with a Yamaha RX-V1500 (superb condition) picked up on here for £110. So the full system has stood me for £225. I'm well chuffed with the outcome! Show me an all-in-one system to beat that for the price!

(I was thinking about the onkyo 605 or 606 - but my mate tells me that the amp is overkill for speakers of this quality)

I would like to get HD sound from the HDDVD and BLURAY discs I own, any thoughts?

Looking on the amp forums , opinions seem mixed on the 605 and 606 with the only point of consensus being that they are ugly and run hot ! The Yamaha 861 is a great bargain at the moment and is in my opinion a handsome beast and will allow hd sound via PCM on HDMI .

I've heard people get very sniffy about HD sound on budget speakers , in particular these speakers , but if you can get it at this price point what's the problem ? Sure you can get a better sound from a non hd amp partnered with a superior set of speakers , but the sound from these speakers is super as far as i'm concerned .

Knowing you are getting the latest sound formats is great despite folk telling you your speakers are too crummy to appreciate them .

Everyone is entitled to their opinion , and a simple test of running the Cars Blu Ray , on the PS3 ,firstly via bitstream on dolby digital , then via PCM on Dolby HD had everyone in the room saying that the hd soundtrack sounded better . Maybe we were all deluded and with the speakers we were listening to it is impossible to tell any difference , and that the difference was in our minds , not in our ears , but so what ? As i've said the sound is great and knowing you are capable of getting HD sound is the cherry on the icing of a very sweet cake !

I'm in similar position and thinking of getting the sony STR DG820, HD sound and about £100 - 150 less than the onkyo, released in a couple of weeks.

I have currently got a Logitech Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speaker System in my room,.

it was originally in a smaller room and performed superbly, room was about 3.5 meters by 3.5 meters

now they are in a room 3.5 meters by 5 meters. utilising the length for my sammy 46" telly...
sub is still turned right down but think speakers are struggling

question is will these tannoys coupled with something like an onkyo 605 make me stand back and think god how did i do without them:-), or should i stick with the logitech,,,,
