My mum wants a small flat screen TV for her 80th birthday - to go in her bedroom. Absolute picture quality is not a big issue - as long as it works well and gives a decent image. I've trawled the net but it's all very confusing. Could any of you knowledgeable folk give me some advice please? Richer Sounds have a Polaroid TLU01941CU for £165. It's HD ready and has a digital tuner. Would I be wasting my money? And what sort of aerial lead would I need?

Would be better asking in the TV forums..........however my advice... If picture quality's not so important I wouldn't worry about HD either (most are though now). Digital tuner is relevant as analogue will be stopping soon (depends where you are). The digital issue is the most relevant for the aerial. Again depending where you (or your mum rather) may need a new aerial. You should be able to find out on the web - or from neighbors. The big thing is that she can use it OK, as some of the elderly can be technophobic, so one with a familiar remote may help. The Polaroid looks alright, but have a search on the forums to see what sort of reliability other members may have had. You could even post a wanted ad, someone may be after a HD upgrade & have a 'new', lower speced screen to sell. For most members here PQ is probably top priority. Good contrast & brightness are important, but PQ is much more subjective. If you have a read of some reviews, you will see why some TVs are preferred. It may offer a pointer to what would suit your mum.
