Aargh! I just ordered one of these from Amazon on Sunday night at 149 quid. I see they've reduced their own price as well to 120 now. I've just tried to cancel the order, but it says it is too far gone- getting ready for dispatch. I hope I can return it! Damnit.

Email them and they will refund the difference. They refund if the price changes in the first 30 days.

Cheers for the advice- I'll do just that and see what they say!
Also, thanks to Phil-YAI. If you hadn't posted this then I probably would never have known! That extra 30 quid can buy me 2 US hd dvd's now!

I have been tempted by this for a while. There is still great films on HD DVD (Blade Runner in HD is very tempting) but I will wait and see if it goes down to £99.99 and still 7 films.

The 7 film deal stops on the 31st Jan was going to get this myself or even the xbox HD drive but not sure if HD will go the distance

Re: 7 Free Films with Toshiba EP30 HD-DVD Player - £119.99 @ Play.com

Hey this would be a good deal if it weren't for the fact that Warner Bros stop releasing films on HD-DVD in May. If it weren't for this I'd be getting one of these.

Good thing is, if Toshiba achieve the impossible and manage to gain some kind of niche foothold in the market - their player prices can only go down from where they are now.

When you can get a HD-DVD player for the price of a decent DVD player, you have to ask some serious questions about this pricing strategy and the formats future.

its the same price on amazon.

To be honest at this price its good value even if hd-dvd bites the dust. as you get a great upscaling dvd player with 7 hd films for a very reasonable price.

You only have to purchase the HD-DVD player before the 31st Jan to qualify for the 5 free films offer.
You then have until 29th Feb to send in your form.

If it's anything like the previous offer, then when the current one ends the likelihood is that they will replace it with a different one (different films and/or more films) rather than offer no films at all.

They will just replace it with another offer. The have been doing this offer for over a year know I believe. I settle for 5 different films at £100.

Even with no Warner from June, there is still a lot of HD DVD's released to keep people happy.

Tempting, but clearly an act of desparation, so will only be useful for a while, unfortunately. Wish this wasn't the case, I wanted HD DVD to win...

I'm finding this deal very tempting too. If it gets down another £20 before the end of the month I won't be able to resist.

Ditto. Mine's going on the bay too.

As a matter of interest what disks are you lot choosing from the list? The only one that I fancy is Children of Men, any recommendations?

Re: 7 Free Films with Toshiba EP30 HD-DVD Player - £119.99 @ Play.com

Well mine arrived yesterday and quickly set it up this morning before work and I have to say that having owned the Xbox HD DVD Drive this is definately a step up, the picture is fantastic, I've only played with it for 10mins (yes, and the HD DVD!) and I am very impressed. However I do have a few questions to those who have the machine:-
  1. Is there a facility to show how long is remaining on the disc? If you press DISPLAY it shows the time elapsed only.
  1. I have installed an Optical lead into the back and also into my amp but no sound is coming through. Is there a setting that I have to change?
  1. Is there a Zoom function to eliminate the black lines at the top and bottom of the screen? i.e. in 2:40:1 I know that this is the way that the Director wanted you to watch it but I like to have the screen filled, personal preference I suppose.

Cant wait to get home tonight and watch a HD film and a SD film.

What's the ethernet connection allow you to do?

And I would suggest Troy is worth getting, but the rest of the DVDs in the offer don't interest me at all

But then Troy is not the nice new directors cut (neither is the full metal jacket)

Dont think there are any great films in the 5 disk offer tbh..

(corpse Bride & tokyo drift are decent demo disks for the format, but not repeat watch films)

Re: 7 Free Films with Toshiba EP30 HD-DVD Player - £119.99 @ Play.com

Can someone please help with the form for the 5 extra free disks for this? - I ordered the player and it arrived but I thought there'd be a form inside to apply for the others. - I can't see the one online either.

Anyone got a working link or should I contact Amazon or even Toshiba?

Even if it was a limited (dated) offer, I still ordred in time I think.

Cheers

Steve
