30 inch LCD TV GBP998.73

Yes - under a grand (inc VAT) at Makro. MakroMail 20 refers. Brand = Goodmans; model no. not quoted.

They claim 1280x720 resolution (which makes it true 16x9 and not 15x9 as many are) and 170deg viewing angle.

My guess is it's this one:

The Goodmans GTV30WLCD 30'' LCD TV (VSS 75 cm) is an impressive massive screen TV at a reasonable price, featuring.

2 x 10W RMS Nicam Stereo.
Teletext.
Child Lock.
APS / RCA / Headphone Sockets.
Scart / Composite / S-Video Inputs.
Wide 170 Horizontal / Vertical Viewing Angle.
500 cd/m2 High Brightness Screen.
Line Out.
Aspect Ratio 16:9 Display Area 597mm Horizontal x 336mm Vertical.
1280 x 720 Resolution (WXGA).
measures 50H x 84.1W x 26.6D.

It looks like the same one that Argos have for £999.

I wonder how it compares to the Dabs/Medion one?

I guess it is. However, Makro (if they have stock) is somewhere you can collect from. The Argos offer is internet/delivery only, right?

In my experience of another LCD device a while back, Makro are willing to let you open the crate and do a quick dead pixel check before you buy. Surprising for a cash&carry, but there you go.

One small point (whilst I hope that Makro have stock near me on Thursday), Argos state 35 days for delivery !

I wonder if it's any good?

Steve.

The last time I saw one of these in Makro, they actually had one unpacked. It wasn't switched on though, but my guess is, they would demo it, if asked.

No component in? Avoid?

A bit sweeping, that. An RGB connection will give results of equal quality to component for most users, progressive sources aside. And, by necessity, the TV itself will have an onboard de-interlacer - it has to - so progressive scan isn't a requirement per se.

Having said that, it's quite probable that, at this price point/size and for this brand name, the onboard deinterlacer isn't up to the standard of many found in external scalers and/or upmarket progressive-equipped DVD players. But I've got not useful way of confirming that, one way or the other.

Clearly, anyone wanting the best of the best isn't going to be looking at under a grand for a 30 inch LCD. In terms of pounds per inch it's pretty hard to beat.

Its cheap if you don't have to replace it with a screen that does support Progressive :D
