Free extended warranty on electrical goods

Was in Nationwide Buidling Society this morning, where a helpful chap told me that if you have a Nationwide credit card and buy electrical goods for £50 or more, you can phone them within 60 days of purchase and you get a year's waranty on top of the manufaturer's for nothing.

No annual or hidden charges for the card either, so you could spend zero on it and just use it to extend your warranties every time you buy something.

Thought you might like to know

I suspect (without knowing) that you actually have to buy the product using the card. That's not to say you can't pay it off in full when due to avoid interest.

I have a Nationwide credit card and it is by far the best one I know fo using abroad as they don't charge any commission on foreign currency transactions and the exchange rate they use is muh nearer the actual rate than most other card issuers.

Afaik, if the transaction is done in Japan in a foreign currency then you'd not pay any commission on it, just the cost of the item in Sterling according to the exchange rate at the time of the transaction. I used my card in Florida at the end of November 03 and transactions in different shops on the same day were charged at different rates according to the actual rate at the time of the transaction! You can't say fairer than that imho!!

oh sorry, you take me wrong...... i mean the warranty..... buying a projector fro pricejapa (for example) means you must accept the warranty being japanese and your needing to send it back come a problem. If you could get a UK warranty based on your CC then this would be a really important point.

well barclaycard have been doing this for years! personally i think with the price promise it is the best option. But this is good news for everyone as it puts more pressure on the other cards to follow suit!

For the extra year Barclaycard warranty the product must be purchased in the UK and the extra warranty is over and above the standard manufacturer's warranty which must be 12 months or more and not greater than 24 months.

There is also a limit of £1500 per breakdown (£5000 for platinum card owners).

Ad,

Hate to rain on your parade but if you deal with PJ, you're credit card transaction is with Paypal.

Not much good, an extended warranty with Paypal

So you're not purchasing a projector etc. with your credit card, just currency (Yen, whatever).
