Just how much of an improvement would this give me over my Toshiba 420 into a Toshiba 42PW23P RPTV?

Its worth doing a search on this forum for this model, as lots of people have experienced problems when applying the firmware upgrades for Prog/Scan etc....

I also saw this deal on empiredirect and placed an order, but it appears you guys got there first...

It really is a good DVD player, but be very wary of applying patches from the internet. I did this on my Denon 2800 MkI, and ended up will all sorts of problems. I had to send it back to Hayden Labs for them to apply the multi-region and PAL progressive upgrade. Mine was purchased second hand, so I'm not sure if Denon will apply this for you?

The only negative I have about the player is that when playing long films such as Star Wars Episode II and LOTR Extended Edition, I get the occasional sound drop out when the chapters change. After checking the forum, I am testing mine in Film Mode in the setup, as apparently this can prevent this from occuring.

I'll let you lot all know...

Have fun!

Cheers, Lee

I ordered on Xmas eve and but then e-mailed them to cancel the order late that evening (concerned about the issues in making it multi region etc).

I haven't received the player so I assume they did cancel the order - they haven't e-mailed me to confirm this though. I'll have to remember to check my credit card bill carefully!

Matt.
