Royal Mail Special Delivery is handled separately from regular post. That is the reason you pay the premium in price. Paying extra for recorded on a 1st or 2nd class stamp does not guarantee expediancy unlike RMSD. The Special Delivery vans handle them specifically and it is also why they would have been unaffected by the recent industrial action

I am sad to say that if the item was posted in the mistaken belief it was by RMSD but in actual fact has gone out via standard 1st class, and there is no delivery receipt, then there is no way of knowing where the item is. I highly suspect this will be an avoidable lesson for the future

The refund should be made to the buyer as standard
