Re: Free Energy Moniter and 6way standby saver

I received mine a few days ago, as much use to me as a chocolate fire-guard.

The receiver for the monitor needs to be connected to the mains, if you live in an apartment block this could be a problem.

I have received them and so have the other people I directly know.

Smokedog

Guess it wont be much help for you but hopefully a free 6 way adaptor can still be used.

Re: Free Energy Moniter and 6way standby saver

Just set up by 6way power saver. Looks like a good bit of kit and should save a fair bit with the following plugged in:

Denon Hifi
Xbox 360
Skybox
Samsung 32"

And a netgear router (But thats set to stay on all the time.

Fantastic bit of kit

I wonder how unreliable or otherwise a Sky box is when AC power cycled daily ?
It could either increase reliability (due to less time running warm and perhaps electrolytic capacitors in its power supply lasting longer) or decrease reliability due to daily full charge/discharge (with its related inrush currents during power up).

I received mine today.

I can't work out a good place to put the display unit; it would have been good if it had recesses for hanging it on a vertical surface (wall). Instead it can only sit (vertically but slanted backwards by a few degrees) on a flat surface.
Not the best idea in terms of WAF (wife acceptance factor).
An alternative is to hide it in a little used place, e.g. utility room if we had one, but then chances are that the occupiers would forget about its existence and rarely check their consumption.

Seems to be working. Also works if you're not over 70 but have someone receiving benefits.

Saw this thread about 4 or 5 weeks ago and decided to give it a try.

Monitor and Standby saver arrived last week.

Monitor is OK, not the best. (I already have the Wattson, whose design means it's more likely to be heeded in our house. Big number output with gentle background colours).

For me, the British Gas Standby Saver looks to be the more useful bit of kit of the two.

Hi. I wonder if this might help me? I've been leaving my home cinema set-up on standby for months now. A friend of mine tells me that the tv uses as much as 90% power when on standby? Problem is that on the odd occasion I have turned it all off, I have problems with the tv guide (guide plus) and also the guide on my hard drive recorder. They don't seem to get updated.

I'm well pleased with my budget home cinema system. Its mostly Sony (by accident rather than design) along with a Jamo speaker system. Using all HDMI cables, it responds to just one remote which is a real bonus. I'd hate to find though that my electric bills start going through the roof. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Not sure if I can help as I leave my Sky box in standby at all times and then just switch the telly off at night but if most of your gear is Sony then maybe ask in the Sony forum as they may be able to give advice...

Link still seems to be working, so ordered a few for my elderly relatives.

Interested to note that according to British Gas, no one over the age of 90 is likely to still be alive! The earliest year you can select for the date of birth is 1920! Both my Great Aunt and Grandpa are alive and well, aged 95 and 97 respectively! Might send a strongly worded email to BG!
