Reading PDFs and Excel Spreadsheets (XLS)

Hi guys,

planning to get an e-reader hopefully this Christmas but question is, which one?

I need it to basically scour through tons of PDF documents and also Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets (XLS) to analyse data, etc

I know most of the current e-readers are compatible with PDF but which ones are best for XLS files? Or must they go through some conversion first like the Kindles do?

Any advice appreciated

Re: Reading PDFs and Excel Spreadsheets (XLS)

From the Mobile Read wiki list, for e-readers that support both XLS and PDFs, i only see
  1. iriver story
  2. Plastic Logic QUE (unreleased)

I am wondering now if I should go for either of these models or take a chance with the more popular brands like Sony and the Kindle and hope they will update firmware to allow viewing of Excel spreadsheets?

I'm hoping by some miracle I can find an e-reader that ticks all if not most of the boxes as it would be the perfect xmas09 gift for my father

Even if your reader and read excel, you would have to scroll to view the whole document
