Summary of new dvd recorders at IFA Berlin 2003

I just wanted to provide a very brief summary of the new dvd recorders that were launched. The information is from www.areadvd.de where you also can find some pictures.
I used babelfish to translate where necessary.

Happy Reading.

Wasabi,

LG – BLUE RAY

The Blu Ray recorder Bd-vdr is the digital recording equipment of a completely new generation: It stores highly soluble pictures with up to six times higher resolution than one it is used from DVDs. As media HDD video Discs with 23,5 gigabyte storage capacity serves? thus 4.7 GB fit a large DVD on a Blu Ray Disc approximately five times more data than on. The data are stored thereby no more on even layers, but in the lattice structure of a photosensitive material. Thus a video Disc in some hundred layers can be described, whereby a much larger photograph capacity develops. This makes possible a blue laser beam, which works within the range of 405 nanometers.

Bd-vdr uses different new technologies, e.g. media with a 0.1 mm of thick, transparent substrate layer, in order to thus ensure the compatibility to the DVD standard used so far and to the today's DVD Playern. In order to make a storing on the silberscheiben as efficient as possible, three new techniques are used. A new modulation code changes digital signals, in order to facilitate a storing on the Discs?frame wobble addr-sings? serves for the data addressing on the Disc and a new signal processing technology maximizes the photograph capacity. LG Electronics developed also its own Pickup for the blue laser as core component of the recorder, as well as a signal processing chip with own technology. Already today LG announced according to own data concerning 120 patents, which are connected with these new technologies.
