Looking for a DVD Recorder

I have owned two RCA DVD Recorder/VHS combos and had good results with them, other than their dying after four to six months. However, neither was "copywrite sensitive" as most refer to newer models. I recently purchaed a Magnavox combo, only to learn that it was choosey about the discs it accepts and that it will not record on premium channels I subscribe to through my local cable company (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel and Pay-per-View Movies, nor any of the corresponding HD channels for these services). Again, this was not a problem with the RCA units.

Tomorrow, I will return the Magnavox. This leaves me still looking for a good DVD Recorder/VHS machine (I have a lot of VHS tapes I would like to convert to DVD also) that is not copywrite sensitive. I was recently told that all Sony combos are sensitive, while others are not. Can anyone recommend a good DVD Recorder/VHS combo that is not affected by the copywrite encription?

Re: Looking for a DVD Recorder

So far as I am aware there is not a single DVDR that is not.

They could not legitimately use the DVD badge unless it were otherwise.

Gavtech is correct.
Also, since you mention Magnavox , HBO etc. , I assume that you are based in North America.
Note that these forums are European based and we have different models and/or brands to you.
There are similar American forums like :
